Hi. Going to install a cat flap for a friend tomorrow. One of those cat flaps with a tunnel included to go through thicker doors

This is the door I question

She wants it fitting on the area marked

Can you see any issues with this. I have installed them before. But always on a flat area. This is in a area with moulding

You dont want to be cutting through the bottom rail of the door.

It will lose to much strength

Just put it in the middle of the panel, the cat will still use it - They can climb :D.

looking at it though, that's not the base he'll be cutting through is it? it's looks like, base no cutting, then panel cutting and then through another panel. door is weird.

You really need to fit it to flat surface on both sides. It will be a nightmare to fit otherwise with lots of packing needed. Door structure could well be compromised.
IIRC Cats like to approach cat flaps at head height.
Andi.

You can't fit a flap that low anyway. The idea is for the base of the flap is to be around 15-25mm below the cats belly. The base of my flap is 100mm from the bottom of the panel it's fitted to. Looking at that door the only place you can fit a flap is in that middle panel.

1) it is a white board marker.
2) Thank you people. I think it would be very hard to fit it and make it look okay where she requires it. Her thinking is that it could be too high in the flat square area.

I will look at it tomorrow when I am there to be sure. I was always under the impression they needed mounting onto flat surfaces.

Here some pictures of my dog/cat flap (used by my westie & Cat) which I used some wood around the upper half to make up the difference for the door pattern .
But the pattern on my door is far easier then the door you want to put a flap in..

Assuming it's the same moulding on the other side, then you're never going to get a weather-proof seal on that... Our back door was similar, and we ended up buying a replacement plain flat panel to fit the cat flap in, also means we have the original panel to put back in if we ever need to

My back door is exactly the same. I just ended up not getting a cat flap and open the door for the cat instead.
