Have had a cat now for two weeks and finally let it out into the garden however it has somehow managed to escape and I cannot find the thing :( What are the chances it will come back??

It will come back when it gets hungry unless someone else feeds it or it manages to fend for itself but it knows where 'home' is so hang in there and be strong.

Put some food outside the front door, maybe even leave it open if you don't have a cat flap.

Cats will usually stick around once they feel safe and get regular food, just worried that 2 weeks might not be long enough.

Around 20 mins I know not long but worried it wont come back, its a fully grown female.

A kitten I would have been worried about. A fully grown female, not so much. But 2 weeks is a short amount of time for it to become comfortable with its surroundings.

We'd had ours about 6 weeks before we let it out, even then it sneaked out of the kitchen window. We didn't know anything about it until it jumped back in again while we were having tea and frightened the **** out if us. :o

It should be fine.

I know it's a cliche, but it should come back when it's hungry. Just keep calling it occasionally so it knows where to head when it's ready to come back.

If it's not been outside before, or for a while, then it might be a little scared. In this case it might wait until nightfall before it comes back.

Wouldn't worry too much, the first time I let my cat out he disappeared for 36 hours, by the time he came back I was crawling up the walls and he strolled in looking like everything was cool; I swear he just did it to wind me up!

There really isn't a lot you can do mate, maybe have a walk around the area, the rattle of the dried cat food box could work...but cats tend to only be found when they want to.

Hang in there!!

My cat was down at my mother in laws, after just 2 hours it got out and went missing for 3 days, turned up when his belly started rumbling after being spotted all over town fighting with other cats.

Nothing to worry about, cats aren't daft, it'll head back and will know exactly where it's home is after 2 weeks.

well last week Cat #4 arrived at home from the local CPL - instead of a kitten this time we decided on an older cat as kittens are much easier to home IOHO!

Anyway - we ended up with Lui who is a MONSTER - 7KG turtle-shell budle of furr - not fat - just muscley!

On day 2 he managed to open the door to the kitchen and break through the cat-flap - GONE!

Spent 3 hours looking for him and gave up - next morning he wonders in - "hiya" LOL

Saturday morning - GONE AGAIN - even after locking him away for the night - destroyed the cat flap completely this time!

3 hours searching in the morning - gave up
3 hours searching in the evening - gave up

4am on Sunday - snuggles in to bed with us - LOL

Now after only 8 days he just fits in and seems really happy - even our other cats like him.

CATS - got to love em!

Khushy

It'll be back, regularly our cat just goes AWOL for a few days then comes back when she's had enough/wants a stroke. They're very self sufficient

20 minutes!
LOL
We took on a rescue cat some years back.
She used to sit at the window all day before we could safely let her out.
On the day she was allowed out she ran into the garden, lept over the fence and was gone.
She returned the next morning.

Once a cat is allowed out there is a lot of investigation to do.
They need to establish their territory and also see how the ranking works with neighbourhood cats and she it fits in.

Cats will always come back once hungry unless somebody "kidnaps" them.
