Cat5 cable woessss

Yo all,

Basically, im using wireless in my loft, but then got loads of cat5e, crimping tool and the connectors from work and made up a cable. Now i tried it on my pc and it didnt work but it works on my girlfriends laptop. Any reasons as to why this is happening?!?!

How long is the cable?
Have you tried your network port on your PC with anything else?

Basically i just couldn't connect to the internet... I havn't used the network port in a long time but i have definitely used it at a lan before.

Well given that the cable did work on the laptop, you gotta start looking at your computers network settings.

<Edit> what i mean is, a little detail might help, you know, like what was the other end of the cable plugged into, for a start. DHCP, static IP, wireless on, off etc. out put of ipconfig /all etc

Hmmm oki,

Wires plugged into a standard BeThere modem.
Pc down stairs has a cable plugged in aswell and works fine, with my wireless enabled upstairs.
Non static ip

we need the ouput of ipconfig /all

start run -> cmd -> ipconfig /all

does you modem have multiple ports in it? Is wireless disabled in your PC? does the 'network connected' thing appear when you plug the cable in?
