Catalyst 6.8 out Open GL performance gains all round

HI there

Well this could be bad I just hope ATI have the common sense to bring supporting drivers with their X1950 XTX if they want me to test it for them. :D

I shall be putting it in the same Conroe system which scored the whopping results with two X1900 XTX cards.

So I shall benchmark it with a single X1900 XTX in and then the X1950 XTX in. Shall only be using 3D Mark 2005 and 2006 but it gives us an idea on performance.

Most likely, I'm sure theres a way to find the device ID to add a custom line to the .ini anyway. Thats if you can get it to work with a simple .ini tweak. Who knows. :)

Nice one Gibbo look forware to seeing the results

Just installed these last night.

Have to say I noticed a difference with Quake 4, much smoother.

Have not noticed any difference with either 3Dmark, 05 or 06 still score around the same as I was getting with the other drivers.

Not liking these drivers, computer runs perfect on every game with 6.6 cats but using these my computer restarts in BF2 :(

Do you get a bluescreen error just before the computer restarts? What about other games?

I'd love to update to these drivers since I'm still using the Omega 6.5 based drivers but I'd rather not if BF2 crashes! :(

avivo video converter in ati catalyst 6.8 does not show up even tho im in basic view or has things changed on how to access it.

I noticed that with the 6.8's windows kept doing a 'found new hardware' on bootup. In device manager it was listed as 'unknown device on Radeon X1800 series'. Didn't know what is was, so just disabled it. I guess this could be ythe avivo converter ? Perhaps 6.8 doesn't support it properly.

its weird, my computer just restarts without any blue screen or anything, just a simple restart when playing for about 20mins on BF2 ... im back to 6.6 cats and no problems what so ever, can play for hours on end

Installed it no problems. Everything seems to be up and running. CS and other DirectX games are normal and smooth so far. Nothing in device manager unassigned or not installed properly.

Will obviously need time to check everything out as i did go for the chuck patch as well.

Well everything runs fine here too, but for the video convert in basic view.
I think it maybe down to the driver version number error in the new cat.
