Catalyst 8.3... A Preview...

You read the manual?? Thats what the forums are for:rolleyes::p

Yep it's true! :D That's why I love OcUK :p:D

So...now that I have the overdrive off, do you use the Auto-tune or manually max out the card with custom clocks?

BTW, I clicked on auto-tune and cancelled it after the temps went up to 80...funny that temp bar didn't move much. Also a bit worred about the "current clock settings" not changing. I hope the new 8.3 catalyst drivers solve this problem...as well as the GPU activity.

80C is nothing for this card, it gets well toasty, you'll hit 80+ just playing at stock clocks.

You should be able to max out the mem clock in Overdrive no fuss, then if you bang core at 856 you'll get 850Mhz core (actual), or you can just shove it up to the end of the bar and see if it works :D

Cool! That sounds like a plan, I will give it a try one I get back home form work! :D

*twitches* I've got my 3870X2 on my work desk now (delivered this morning). Really itching to try it out, these drivers need to come out as soon as possible! Any one know of leaks of it?

This may be what you're looking for, not sure if it's legit or what though as I have a GTX.

Those drivers are rubbish, real pain to install and don't have half the features listed in the 8.3 notes.

TBH just stick to the 8.2's for now, the 8.3's are rumoured to be out ~10th March just after CeBit anyway.

Well I'm sure that with crossfireX you should be able to pair the 3850/256 with 3870x2 no probs anyways. Mix and Match.

:D

I got 855/955 and it passed :) YAY!:D sitting at 67deg atm

But the "current clock settings" at the bottom dont change :(

Just received the OcUK 3870xt and am running the 8.2's but seem to have problems in games - crysis crashes after 5/10 mins however the performance test in CoH completes without a hiccup!

Also 3Dmark 06 hangs instantly and reboots meh pc :/

Hopefully the 8.3's will solve this, as it's fine under general windows use ...

Won't do in 2d, as it clocks down the core to save power/make less heat.

When you fire up a game it'll ramp up to whatever you have set :)

I wonder how effective the HD3800/2900 cards will be at folding. The 640 shaders on the 3870X2 will be like a small supercomputer!

They are considerably faster than any CPU at folding.

Graphical processing units

As of October 2, 2006, the Folding@home GPU client has been released into the public as a beta test. After 9 days of processing from the Beta client the Folding@home project had received 31 teraFLOPs of computational performance from just 450 X1900 GPUs, averaging at over 70x the performance of current CPU submissions.

So the 3800 cards will be well and above that performance!

I'm looking forward to this driver.

I have a Sapphire HD 3850. Am i right this in thinking that the new driver is going to give a big boost in frame rates on this card?
