Because he likes to... Well... Him and nVidia are very close if you get what I mean.
(as for me I'm a bit of a cheater when it comes to GPU manufacturers... Currently own an nvidia card, but I'd willingly take it from ATi.

Like most ATi driver updates, there probably will be a slight performance increase (unlike nvidia driver updates which're a bit ifs and buts), more so in Crossfire, can't say for sure in single card mode. The slides show some kind of tweak to AA, probably quality, but I wouldn't rule out ATi lessening the AA performance hit further.
