Catalyst 8.8 released

thats it...something aint right now ive installed these 8.8's. I was using the hotfix drivers, then i installed these 8.8's, totally removed the 8.7's...but still all the games seem to ignore CCC and its settings, thus resulting in no AA no AF no vysnc..thus again resulting in stupid high FPS, jaggies everywhere..

Ive tried installing ATT but i get wrong low level driver warning or something, reinstalling does nothing to that either....something isnt right since these 8.8's touched my system, god i wish i hadnt seen the 8.8 released.

Going back to the 8.7's that worked before results in the same problem as i have with the 8.8's again totally removing any trace of ATi before i re-installed the 8.7's.

What games are you trying? I'll try them and see what I get.

thats it, im offically giving up...what sort of crap is this, i minimize the game and everything switches off now- AA/AF/Vysnc, never happened before, i could minimize the game 100's of times and not have a problem, this is just annoying the hell out of me and im seriously thinking of selling the 4850 and getting a Nvidia card..stupid drivers.

Sorry, didn't see your specs, its not really comparable

Stuck the 8.8 on my 4870x2 on a clean install of Vista 64. Get a constant 100+ fps on TF no bother at all.

Had a few crashes with it initially, hl.exe stopped working, but now seems fine.

I think the consensus with all that have had problems here is make sure you do a complete clean install.

I forgot to uninstall my Nvidia drivers first and I have had 8.6, hotfix, 8.7 betas and 8.8 betas all on my system at various times.

CCC wouldn't work with 8.8 official.

Did a full clean up as per Firegod including Nvidia drivers and did a seperate install of drivers seperate to CCC.

All is fine and great now. All glitches fixed including "slow mo" in Grid.

I let CCC "auto tune" an overclock on my HD4870X2 card and it ended up on 790/990 on both GPUs (and said it completed successfully). Tried Furmark and it was artifact city, the benchmark wouldn't even run as the screen was so corrupted, managed to get back to the desktop without the whole PC bluescreening.

GG ATI! :(

I had the same, Futuremark was artifacting. I had to remove the driver and Vantage and reinstall the driver and vantage again to get it all working the way it was before.

Auto tune is abissmal. It says 890/1090 is stable and the max overclock on my 4870.

Shame ATI tool is just a yellow screen :(

Anyway, 24/7 use is 850/1090 and 3dmark06/vantage "stable" run is 875/1100

It's just a waste of time as it doesn't heat the card up enough to test it properly.

Just download a modded volt bios for my 4870 now (volt modded by Diamond engineers)

People are posting 20-30 extra Mhz on the overclocks so I will see how it goes.

In case anybody hasn't posted it yet on here:

Thanks Greebo :) There seems to be more room for overclocking of single 4870s which makes sense I guess, either that or I just have a "duff" card which wouldn't be the first time.

bluesouljah: Have you managed to get any sort of overclock out of your card or have you just left it at stock?

Mine seems to be ok at 800 core, but there seems to be practically no wiggle room in the memory speeds. I tried 950 (default 900) and I was getting tearing and artifacts even though the temperature of the card was comparitively low, and anything above 950 was just painting by numbers and high likelihood of bluescreening.

Nope, just left it at stock. Let's face it, it's fast enough. I've been running through Crysis at the weekend. Seems pretty playable at 1600x1200 all very high apart from Post processing and shadows.

Just to carry this on a little more, heres a screenshot of EvE, ive cropped the image.

this is with AA 8 with Edge Detect, AF 16, Adaptive AA quality, Vysnc on.
and this is what it looks like, very very annoying, and most other games look similar, even if i select AA and AF in the game or CCC.
Oh and fraps reports the FPS to be at 432 in EvE with the graphics like that

Are you selecting edge detect and then ticking the box to use applications settings?

If you do and then in the game select 4xaa you get 12xcfaa and if you select 8xaa in the game you get 24xcfaa.

yup, but EvE doesnt have any ingame AA settings the only way is through CCC or ATT, which doesnt load as it moans about wrong low level driver or something.
