I have had massive problems with these drivers and finally nailed the problem down to my modded bios.

For some reason when I flash back to my stock bios it all works swell...yet I've been using this modified bios for weeks now on the 8.7 drivers. :/

I was getting black screens on entering windows...then finally got it to work but would get artifacts even when the GPU was clocked way down to 600/800 ! Stock bios is back on and I'm back up to 830/1150 with 1.3vGPU and stock vmem

I wonder why the bioses are making it funky?

grid now works for me and the monitor no lnger turns off mid game complaining that the signal is out of range.

adaptive AA does not seem to be working in grid :(

iv always installed cat drivers over pervious one and its worked first time, same goes for these 8.8's no problems at all, iv never understood why people find them so problematic, oh and im on vista 64 too

well this is the first time I have had problems with any official ATI or nvidia release :( Even at stock I can't play any game without crashing within about 30 sec. really strange as ATItool can run for ages even when overclocked to over 800mhz.

Something screwy went during the install and I think I'm just going to start over with a fresh server 08 install tomorrow.

arghz!~

Well GRID is still broken at 2560x1600 4xAA or higher on my 4870x2, and a test of Vantage almost gave me a seizure. Also the card refuses to ramp up from 500Mhz core/ram while playing FFXI due to the weird render-to-texture bulls**t SquareEnix use.

Looking good ATI, you are almost snatching defeat from the jaws of victory here.

Well, I was just playing Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare when the screen goes blank and the monitor goes into like a sleep mode where the light on the actual monitor turns orange. The only way to get out of it is to reset the system completely.

I think it maybe time to RMA the ATI 4870. :(

i had the same issue with grid, within 2 minutes it would turn off my monitor but the pc was still on.

underclocking my gpu fixed that till the 8.8's arrived.

aww damn. was going so well. ogl seems busted . city of heroes crashes on launching.

i just noticed my softshadows and furmark scores are really really low, they use OGL :(

Thanks folks, just installed :) Hoping it makes my system alittle more stable, after installing the hot fix it started crashing the pc in media centre.

Anyone know why the under the "Current Clock Settings" the GPU is 500Mhz even though above in Overdrive its set to 780Mhz? Thought it was a querk in the previous Catalyst Center but seems to be the same with this new version?

Fixed my Pro evo issues by re-installing the game and got this from FRAPS on GRID.

Code:
Frames Time (ms) Min Max Avg

 1423 20000 59 88	71.15

Reference drivers from CD With 3350 @ stock and 4870X2

3D Mark 06 - 15481
Vantage 12120
GPU 12866
CPU 10323

8.8 With 3350 @ stock and 4870X2

3D Mark 06 - 15434
Vantage 12264
GPU 12830
CPU 10831

So basically not a bit of difference, I would think the driver on the CD were a pre-production version of the 8.'s just to get some drivers out of the door with the cards.

Taff

I can confirm what tweaktown says about Crysis performance going down, all other games seem fine though. All set's of drivers have been reliable on my 4870 so far so no issues there either.

crysis shadow glitter bug remains :(

that is with aa turned on, not tried it without

damn this good performing card, if it wasnt for that it would have got sold ages ago due to the poor ati drivers

These are awesome drivers, just ran the Fear test, under the 8.7's minimum was about 67, max around 300 odd, thats at 1280x1024 everything maxed with no AA, under the 8.8's minimum is now 76, with the maximum about 440.

EDIT: Just done some testing, and its something to do with me keyboard , Saitek Eclipse II USB, first time i ran Fear i forgot to put me keyboard back in (as i have to use a PS2 one to get into safe-mode) and it got 76 minimum, 440 odd max, put keyboard back in, re-ran it, back to normal 67 minimum, 330 odd max, so removed it again and re-ran, you guessed it, back up to 76 minimum, 440 odd max, WTF!!!

I've seen this, or similar, mentioned about the eclipse II before. One fix I've read about is to disable the HID entry for the media controls on the k/b in device manager. There is a way to work out which one it is you need to delete but I can't find/remember it at the mo.

Well, I have decided to stick with my 4870 over 4850's in crossfire. The highs one crossfire might be higher, but the lows aren't much higher so simply no point in putting up with any hassle crossfire may throw my way in the future..

Assassins Creed seems to run a little better with these.

Crysis is either the same or slightly worse.

ET:QW... not sure. Just don't have much luck getting that game running absolutely smooth with any ATI card...

COD 4 Seems fine, maybe better.

Might go back to 8.7's again for Crysis, as thats the one game that needs a performance boost...

Edit:
Graw 2 seems to be running much better...
