So a buddy of mine just installed a x1900gt to replace his POS 7600GS. He uninstalled the forceware drivers, shut down and installed the x1900gt...then booted up and installed the cat 7.10 drivers from the AMD site and now he's constantly/randomly getting error messages saying the display driver crashed "atikmdag".

So hmmmmmmmmmmm I say, and tell him to uninstall the catalyst drivers. So he goes to the ctrl panel/uninstall section and there's no uninstall...it just gives him the option to change/remove.

So I google and come across the ATI uninstall tool....he tries it and it says something like "something might be wrong as the file or assembly CLI.Implementation or one of its dependencies could not load ".

He's on a fresh install of Vista x64 Ultimate BTW.

I've never dealt with ATI (will in a few days when my x1800xt comes) so don't really know what else to suggest to him.

Try downloading driver cleaner. Install driver cleaner and use menu in driver cleaner panel to selct ati and then run it. Run it a few times and this should get rid of the ati driver. After that open driver cleaner again and select nvidia and run it through a few times. Now try reinstalling the ati driver again. When switching from nvidia to ati or just changing cards always use this to clean out the old drivers. Chances are that there are some nvidia stuff still on there conflicting with your ati drivers.
