Caterham CT-01 launched

It was about reducing the risk of the nose hitting the driver in side impacts (T bones), or spearing its way into the sidepod. While nobody ran one so high, the old regulations allowed a nose that was the same height as the cockpit sides (excluding the raised head supports).

Since they came into the sport, the new teams' designs always look sparse and boxy.

Red Bull, McLaren, Ferrari in comparison are always curvy and amazingly intricate.

Based on that, i'm saying this car will be slow and fail to beat the Williams, Torro Rosso, or Force India

Fired up for the first time last Friday - http://www.caterhamf1.com/news/2012/caterham-ct01-fire-up

Another important milestone in the life of CT01 was achieved today when the Renault Sport F1 engine was fired up for the first time at the factory in Hingham.

Firing up the engine for the first time is a key part of the new car build process, as it allows the team to check that all the systems are working as they should, and to take a look at the basic architecture of all the mechanical and electronic items that are usually covered by the bodywork.

Everything went according to plan and now work continues in preparation for the first test at Jerez, starting on February 7th.

Loving this picture. :D

Ah the Jordan 197. One of the best looking F1 cars ever IMO, but that's probably best saved for another thread.

When someone mentioned that the regulations for next year should insist the cars look pretty, I suddenly had images of covers being taken of late 90's cars :)

Thats a Hornet? Never realised that, thought it was a stylized snake. Lol.

The Caterham looks a lot better than the Ferrari as they have dipped the centre of the nose and moulded it with some curves. The Ferrari looks like someone designed it with a set square!

Playing on the nose design would be cool though. But I think F1 teams are far to serious for this type of shinanigans now though. Caterham might be at the less serious end of the scale though :)

Someone should write an email to Tony.

"I expect you already know that most people are going to comment on the looks of the 2012 cars, but why not roll with it and play along with an interesting design? Take this 'Gator mock up for example? Would be a bit of fun, if nothing else..."
