Cats, bites and tetanus jabs..

I know that it's advisable to get antibiotics for a dog bite as they have really nasty stuff going on intheir mouths, but I'm not sure about cat bites. Even our vet won't give one of our cats a pill as she growls like a rotweiler. I am thinking of getting one of those chain mail gauntlets that proper butchers wear next time she has to be wormed.

WHY BE THERE NO LOLCAT THREAD? :/

Any animal bite is potentially very nasty - most animals have a whole host of nasties in their mouths, hence any bite (no matter how minor) should be thoroughly cleaned (common senss).

As for rabies, it's very very unlikely if you're in the U.K. (I think the last case was in the 60's), unless you smuggled pussy in from outside the U.K. :)

+ 1.

I don't appreciate people suggesting rabies is a risk and associating that with my post. I said nothing of rabies, as it is just not a factor.

Theres no need for a fuss and drama over it. Clean it throughly with water and some anti-septic cream. Arrange a phone consultation with your GP, tell them what happened and they may presribe for you some anti-biotics for preventative reasons. If you do get something, this will help prevent you feeling rotten for a few days while your immune system fights aforementioned nasties.

Its a shame this has become a medical thread. I hope my advice isn't in breach of forum rules. The crux of it is; see a medical professional.

Tried getting the lil **** but he ran off, he tried coming to sit on me when i was on the sofa... lil ****** not a chance..
U SURE TAUGHT THAT CAT A LESSON LOL? I WOULD DO MY BEST TO BITE U IF U STARTED SHOVING DISGUSTING PILLS DOWN MY THROAT THAT I DIDNT KNOW WHAT WAS FOR

AS FOR GETTING BITTEN I HAVE BEEN BITEN COUNTLESS TIMES I EVEN USE MY FINGERS FOR THE CAT TO ATTACK IF I DONT HAVE A MOUSE OR BALL AROUND. IT MAKES THE GAME MUCH BETTER.

MAYBE WRAPPING A CAT UP TIGHTLY IN A SHEET ISNT REALLY THE BEST THING TO DO ARE U INSANE OR WHAT ITS OBVIOUSLY GOING TO GO APE **** IF YOU DO THAT

WHY NOT TRY GIVING IT IN HIS FOOD???????

Cat bites are known to carry a parasite called capsatilus, which Column Matrix has obviously contracted as serious case of.

My mother in law once did that to a cat that bit her. It never bit her after that.

Apparently that works for dogs too, give em a nibble on the ear to show em who's boss. :o

I'd say he has a deadly case of it, has been posting in caps all day.

I would just go ahead and get a jab, or at least consult a doctor about it.

When I was younger I had a cat bite clean through my hand...and yes I got a tetanus shot...nasty things...it hurt more than the darned bite. Makes your arm sore for a number of days.

Well ive been to work all day today, its swelled up quite a bit to the extent that i cnt clench a fist with that hand... it hurts aswel on all 4 bite cuts, i think i may pop up to the hosp on mon

or ring NHS direct and see what they say...

Its hard to get to the hosp, my mum is unavailable to drive for the next few weeks and i cant get a bus due to work and the timings... i finish at 6 tomo, last bus is 10 back to wer i am and i guarantee i wont make it due to the poor state of the BRI (Bradford royal inf)...

I really am puzzled, a guy at work said i really **** get it looked at, and my mum sais ill be ret as she got bit by him, not as serious but he stil drew blood and she is fine, she had a tetanus when she was a kid, so well over 10 yrs..

pfft, ill ring NHS direct to be honest.

Yeah. Basically cats nearly always cause infected wounds on creatures (and us poor humans) when the bite or scratch.

Clean the wound, apply some antiseptic and if it is bad bandage or plaster. Oh and because cat wounds are nearly always jagged rather than smooth it is going to hurt for a bit.

I have two scars from my cat. One is a couple of inches long on my forearm. Very faded now though! The other is on my shoulder when I dropped him (was carrying him and he slipped) and he grabbed me with one claw. I had six kilo of cat hanging from my shoulder by his claw. My skin gave way. It wasn't fun.

Oh he has also for no reason when sat on my lap stuck both front paws with claws out in my face. They got stuck and I had to get my wife to remove them. Ouch!

Cat ownership is fun.

/me raises a glass of wine to his cat Lord Splodge!

Yeah, its not your health at risk.. Tetanus isnt something small..

Hense why people worry about it, i just want to know if its worth getting sorted, i think it is, so im gonna have to do something about it.

No offence meant. Best of luck, just I've had cats since a child : been bitten, scratched, clawed etc and I'm still here.

I sincerely hope you haven't caught anything nasty mate. ;)

THE WAY I SEE IT (MAYBE IT IS A STUPID THEORY) IS THAT IF I KEEP RUNNING TO MEDICINE FOR THINGS EVENTUALLY MY IMMUNE SYSTEM WILL HAVE TO RELY ON THESE ANTIBIOTICS TO FIGHT OFF INFECTIONS AND ALSO THE BACTERIA/VIRUS/WHATEVER ORGANISM HAS CAUSED ME TO FALL ILL COULD DEVELOP IMMUNITY TO THAT SAID MEDECINE

I BARELY EVER TAKE ANY MEDICINE EVEN IF I HAVE SOMETHING AS COMMON AS FLU (WHICH I RARELY GET)

I HAVE BEEN BITTEN COUNTLESS TIMES BY MY CATS AS HAS MOST OF MY FAMILY AND NOTHING HAS EVER HAPPENED TO US. FACE IT UNLESS YOUR CAT IS SERIOUSLY ILL ITSELF ITS NOT GOING TO PASS ON A LIFE THREATENING DISEASE TO YOU (IF YOUR CAT IS THIS ILL AND YOU HAVENT REALISED PLEASE HAND IT IN TO THE RSPCA AS YOU SHOULDNT BE LOOKING AFTER ANIMALS)
