"Caution Retard's in Area"

I don't really see what's the fuss, I'm sure this kind of stuff happens in most places...

The news report was structured pretty poorly aswell.

"You are a good guy."

Colton Heaton: "Yes I'm a good guy

Carrie Heaton, Nephi Resident: "Yes you are... Pats"

What's with that part?
Sounds ridiculous

Well after reading that article i think something should be done about the boy assaulting his daughter. I can imagine she is the type of mother who doesn't care what her son does as he's "special". I agree that the sign is the wrong way to go about it though.

How PC does this sound
developmentally delayed

Disgracfull, but I also don't think we have the full stort. Neighbours say he's wondered onto there property and thrown stones. Pehaps he has been causing lots of problems, which his parents ahven't been able to control. Oh pehaps it just some redneck making fun..

Its about time proper words were used again including developmentally delayed.
my wife works in the Speak & Language Unit which actually means developmentally delayed, autistic, learning disabled and other assorted non PC words.
OK, I admit I'm a bit old and I'm not very PC with my words. Only this morning while out we saw a young boy who spoke to my wife and after he'd gone I asked if he was one of her 'backwards kids'. She replied "No, speak & language".
Give me a break, its about time we got back to calling a spade a spade.

Are you suggesting that people with learning difficulties and other cognitive difficulties should be labelled as retards / backwards?

Its just stupid, because when these kids are grown up, "developmentally delayed" will be used in a derogative manner. Then what change the name again?

No, I'm suggesting they be called learning difficulties and cognitive difficulties you un PC person you.
Instead they are called speak & language.

All for refining the PC terms but " backward" ?

The only spade should be the one she hit you with ;)

Lets give you an example -

I think its Mickey_D who has got an autistic child and guess what? - he still calls him an autistic child because he's in America and PC probably hasn't reached him there yet.
He had an incident in a DIY place where his lad was doing what autistic kids do and a woman had a go at him and his wife to chastise the lad.
If he had turned round and said "He's speak and language" it would go over everybody's head but instead he used the correct term for the condition and everybody knows straight away the problems.
A spade is a spade but in this country we have to call it a shovel.
