Caviar Black

Looking for a new HDD, for the money/spec/reviews this one seems like a good drive. 1Tb is out of stock so i will probably just get the 640GB, which is still more than enough - 2 other hard drives i have will provide plenty of back up.

Any other drives i should look at? The WD seems to rate as good as / better than a F1.

Advice on this?

the f3 is still the fastest I believe, just check the date of the reviews you were looking at as the drive itself is over a year old. I stopped looking at that and went for F3's myself

Ok ..and is the Samsung F3 very quiet ? i,ve always had Seagate drives ,but alittle scared to change :confused:

I've got the F3, Black, 7200.11/12 (good mix lol) and TBH the Samsung's are faster and slightly quieter than the Black's and the Seagate 7200.11/12 range. It's personal preference, I ordered 2 750GB Black's yesterday as I wanted the 5 year warranty.

What is confusing about all this talk of the F3 being faster is that your all talking about sequencial reads and writes, which has been shown to be a poor judge of a drives speed unless you move large files a lot. Its random reads and writes which you want to be looking at and the caviar black totally trunches the F3 in this. Its miss-information to suggest the F3 is the faster drive when real world tests would say otherwise. The Caviar Black atm is the fastest mechanical SATA drive bar the velociraptor you can get, the F3 is quite a way behind.
