Just wondered if anyone here partakes in this rather scary in my opinion hobby? I watched a documentary a while ago about Caving and Potholing in the UK on the BBC and was blown away with how narrow these gaps and tunnels were, that people were managing to cruel through. Not something I would be able to do as I am claustrophobic yet I find this activity really interesting.

I used to do it when I was at school, we used to go on 'outdoor pursuits' weeks during the summer. It was quite cool. The instructors told us that even if you're quite fat you won't get stuck because you just squish into the gap. No worries for me because I was quite skinny :D

I think the one I couldn't do would be underwater caving. Crawling through a gap where you might get stuck but you can still breathe is one thing. Crawling through a gap where you might get stuck in freezing cold murky water and drown is quite another

Mmm don't think i could do that not when it gets to tight, and underwater caving defo no way

I've been caving near wookie hole, about as tame as they come but would love to something more daring. i love the sort of adrenaline it invokes!

A lad I used to work with was addicted to this, there's a whole community thing going on with it! They even had Christmas dinner in a cave! Crazy!

Never did venture there myself but it's something I would most definitely do.

My mum does this in South Wales - apparently the longest cave network in the UK or something?

Was in their HQ the other day and saw the map on the wall, looked slightly more complicated than the London underground map - very easy to get lost in I can imagine.

Anyway, she's trying to persuade me to go along with her some time, so if it's soon, I'll report back (if I survive =P)

Please do so also take some pictures if you can.

You can fit in a mini?!

Yep it has been done with three other people two of them being easily over 6ft:D.

i used to go pot holing / caving when i was in scouts and ventures scouts around the Mendips, was good fun, but was a long time ago.

abseiling down throw a waterfall, getting covered in mud, pulling yourself through a squeeze that is just big enough for you to fit through, and once u got down to the bottom, you had to go back up to the top, usually finishing with a wire ladder climb which is so energy sapping you wouldn't beleive.

Its been a good few years since I've been, but I have done quite a bit of caving & potholing. Started when I was in scouts & then I carried on with my dad & friends for a few years after that. I'm sure my Dad has scanned his entire (pre-digital) photo collection to pc, will see if I can get hold of any photos over the weekend to post up.

No chance I'd want serious money to do caving. My fear is with getting stuck and getting into a panic.. I don't know how some love it as a hobby!
