Cayman S Awesomeness and sadder story

How many beers did this dude have ? People are far too quick to judge

if you're driving, no beers is usually a good amount to have.
how many did he have? too many.

quick to judge? he crashed into a parked car and was over the limit. not really much to argue is there?

not everybody is in a single group, a bottle of beer or 2 and driving is totally fine, to be over the limit you really have to mean it and make a conscious decision to drive after having too much. a single beer does not make you a worse driver, there is a very good reason the limit isnt 0.

as you have said, not everybody is in a single group. you have then, however, gone on to contradict yourself by saying that having a beer or 2 is fine.
this is clearly not true for everyone.

having said that, have you ever been breathalysed after driving 2 beers? how do you know what your blood alcohol content is?
just because you might be under the limit, it doesn't always mean you are in a fit state to drive. alcohol affects everybody differently

regarding the limit in the UK, it's one of the few countries in europe that has a limit of 0.08. most of the EU is 0.05, with some on 0.02 and a few on 0 for all drivers, or new drivers.

Maybe it should be then you wouldn't get as many idiots thinking "I can just have 1/2/3 (insert as appropriate) pints" just cos they think they'll be ok to drive.

I hear of far too many people getting mixed up with units and pints, then on top of that they think that by the time they've drunk 2 pints the first will have almost worn off so if they drink the 3rd slowly then they'll be absolutely fine to drive.

The law needs to be clearer. The only way to do that IMO is to make it 0 alcohol, easy then.

I bet that Cayman must be mental - look forward to the pics! :D

As for drink driving, I can't disagree more - I think you shouldn't have ANY alcohol in your system if you're going to drive. If you do decide to drink even if under the limit, I think it's foolish - and personally I wouldn't let you drive if you were a friend of mine.

Exactly. I'm suprised/disappointed he didnt get more than community service and a ban - should have been given time inside IMO.

What if there was a kid in the back seat of the car he plowed into over the speed limit?

Idiot crashes after too many beers and then gets nicked - I'm failing to see the 'sad' part of this story.

There is a more positive side to the thread - 1 less BMW on the road :p (boooo hissss I know I know - before any of the high and mighty crew jump on me it was a tongue-in-cheek comment).

I don't know of any insurer that won't pay out in full (third party damage and own damage) if you have an accident whilst DUI of drink or drugs.

So, he should get his money.

Common mistake thinking otherwise.

really? maybe third party payout but he was doing an illegal act = invalidate insurance surely???

Yeah, really.

Unless your insurance has a drinks/drugs clause specifically stated then insurers have to pay out in full under both the TP and the accidental damage sections of the policy.

Ordinarily you won't ever see this clause unless you've been done for DUI previously in which case insurers like to use the clause to keep you on the straight and narrow.

yeah sorry for not explaining, it's sad to see such a monster car get mashed, not the drink drive ban, that was a suitable punishment. :(

it was a total beast of a car though!

will get photos asap
