Cayman S or TT RS?

Been in this situation, driven both extensively.

Cayman S

Though I purchased a 911 :p

Do a search on this forum for my write ups on both cars as I went into quite some detail.

Basically TT RS is hugely quick and very tunable for very little money to make it R8 V10 quick for circa £2500-£3000 making it an epic straight line car and great for 1/4 mile, it handles well and is fun to drive, but its not a true sports car.

The Cayman S is not much slower in a straight, but is a whole lot more fun, grin inducing to drive, its a scalpel in comparison to the TT RS hammer approach.

If it was between the 2, the Cayman S for me, its a far far more rewarding car to drive on a spirited country lane blast, will probably hold its value better too. If you mainly sit on motorways then get the TT RS as it will be better suited to motorway use but if you ever just go out for random drives, hunting down great roads, well the Cayman S is in a different league when it comes to rewarding the driver. The TT RS is a car that impresses you but would soon becoming boring and lack involvment, wheras the Cayman S is a car you won't bore of easily. Buy a Cayman S and for 50k, either get yourself a Cayman R or a Cayman Black Edition, both stunning cars. Or be sensible and buy a 3yr ish old 911 from an OPC with 2yr warranty and stick a private plate on it, because the 911, well just do it!

Neither.

For £50k (and presumably enough money to keep it on the road) I'd be looking at a 911

Having said that, I spent nearly £30k on a Renault, what do I know.

:(

Have you not considerd the nissan gtr ?

GTR might be affordable but to run it will cost some 3x-4x more than a Cayman S or TT RS. Fuel, insurance, servicing, consumables are several times more on the GTR.

Plus the OP has said, he don't want a Nissan.

Cayman S at those price points as like others I wouldn't want to be spending that much on a TT no matter how special it is.

Running costs I'd have thought the Cayman is in another league especially at Porsche prices.

TT RS. But im biased! 430bhp with some bolt on mods and a map! They handle beautifuly, and sound as good as the Cayman if not better! They really are a great car, but I understand that they wtill have a Audi TT badge over the porche, however Im not a badge snob man. Seen the TT RS vs M5 little run up the airfield, that makes good viewing on youtube. Ive done the stelo pass in a mapped and exhaust, coilovers TT RS and loved it!

I saw that video too. Kermit green TT RS lining up with the M5 with full exhaust system.

Passenger in the M5 says we'll catch him up soon.

TT RS driver thought differently, and slowly pulled away

TT shop TT RS in green. Its got FMIC Forge and a map and a bit here and there. Shows them in a good light the M5 driver was amazed!

Yep as I said, 2-3k gets them close to R8 V10 performance and the suspension can be tweaked to handle more neutral.

But if the OP wants to retain warranty, then modding is a no go which means the Cayman S is the better car in my oppinion and even after modding a TT RS your not gonna get the driving experience the Porsche offers.

Best advice as always, drive a couple of TT RS and drive a couple of Cayman S. :)

Same old story with any turbo car though really. You can easily mod them to make them better, but it's all if you can be bothered with the hassle!

The TT RS is particular very easy though. Remap is 400BHP, exhaust, FMIC and map is circa 440ish and as its a relatively light and slippery car its very fast upto approx 170mph which is more than you will ever need on the road. :)

Its gearing is very well suited as well as its not a shorty buzzy box and the fuel economy it returns is pretty amazing for the power on offer.

From what I remember a few of the guys on TT RS forums running stage 2 are seeing 60mph in around 3.8s and 100mph in around 8s, its a seriously fast car, its only downfall to some is its a TT and they depreciate heavily, plus they are new so modifying voids your warranty, but once their 3 or more years old I can see them been the new performance bargain.

What they can't do is match an EVO X or sorted Scooby in handling as the Haldex system is not a patch on Mitsubishi's S-AWC and Subaru's is also better too and the TT dulls things down a bit.

Yep, at 20k I would be all over one but when you are looking at 32k+ I would take a M3, 911, Cayman and many other cars over the TT Rs.

Considering you can get a 135i at under 20k and map it to 380 bhp its hard to justify the cost of the TT rs.

Yeah I agree, for me the TT RS isn't priced realistically when you consider you can get a 3.4L Cayman S of around the same age for less money.

I could never see myself spending 32k on a used TT RS (let alone £45k on a new one) whereas I can see why people would spend this sort of money on a Cayman S over a Boxster S.

I also don't think the "look what you can do when you don't care about the warranty or the car being anything like it was sold as" argument flies either.
