Just got a cheapo water kit on this bad boy...3.174ghz....Orthos dual prime load is about 40-41c. 28c idle

My first time with water...wanted a basic kit to help me learn....will be changing the block for a swiftech apogee and changing the pump for a swiftech as well.

indeed it is a nice chip that, just curious what kit is it?

A dreaded Thermaltake kit....the Bigwater 745. It was very cheap and came with everything I needed, and it actually got ok reviews.

Things I noticed while installing:

-the block looks well made but poorly designed...it seems to have a very fast flow through it but I just can't see it removing heat as efficiently without any pins or thingies that stick up to bring the heat out (like the apogee). It does appear to do a decent job though.

-Not enough coolant...had to run to the store and buy some distilled water to add to it....came with 500ml and needed about 750ml total.

-Fan controller sucks. It doesn't work (trying to get a replacement)

I have read quite a few reviews on this kit, and for the price has had some very good results, if i was to go water i would deffo get this for my first water setup!

What volts are you giving it mate,in the bios ?

Rob

the bios says 1.68

I'm thinking of lowering it to about 3.06 or 3.08ghz so that I can run my memory at 250mhz instead of the 230mhz or something and so I can lower the vcore.

Is 1.68 high for water? seems kinda high for daily use to me.

Thanks for the input ont he water blocks everyone. :)

Nice clock, I'm a pussy so would be wary of putting 1.68v through your chip for daily use even on water, it wont do much harm when benching though.

Interesting, been thinking about getting water myself but wanted to see what others get. My CCBIE already gets 3Ghz on air so tempted to see what I get on water.

well so far I can boot into windows at 3.3ghz but it's not stable at all..crashes after a few minutes and instantly if I start priming...and that's with 1.7 vcore into it...I think I'm just going ot back down to 3.0ghz so I can run with my ram at 9:10
