ive posted in there and so have others with no responce to that specific stepping,

Thats the place your most likely to get an answer, I suspect you will be the one to give it as I don't think many people have the 1551 stepping yet, or maybe try over at Xtreme forums.

In the meantime you can do some pioneering work and be one of the first to publish your findings :)

Personal experience: Stay away from this stepping!!!! OCUK is selling these in high numbers. My Opteron 170 is already crapping out at 2.5GHz, a true dissapointment

by the post over the xtremesystems, it seems that it might not be a great clocking cpu. but it could also be just luck too.

frankly i am more interested in Intel Yona cpu's, they are the new opterons as far as i am concerned.

Depends which way you want to look at it m8..not so great compared to other steppings but if you can get 2.4 gig you have saved yourself £200+. 2.6 and you have saved £400. So it aint all bad.

******g typical... already fitted it too :

i would but my rig is lacking a gfx card/

you fitted it and you don't have a gfx card?

why did you open the box?

if you couldn't use it straight away. That way you could have waited for feedback on the stepping and stuff

anyway you might just get lucky good luck :)

to be quite honest i wouldnt of returned it anyway. if i get get 2.2GHz outa it ive only lost about £20 over the 4400+ (which before i joined here was my origional choice). if i can get any more i break even

I had a bad clocking opty before the one I have now and that could only do 2.6 ghz and it needed 1.5 vcore IIRC.

so 2.2ghz will be easy and 2.4ghz also.

These so called bad clocking optys are the ones that are not reaching 2.7ghz and above on low or stock v core.

I will be suprised if you dont get 2.6ghz TBH.

If they are as bad as what they are saying about them. But each chip is different and depends on mobo and ram etc....

well as far as overclocking goes. hows my m/b and ram

the ram is the Xtreme Performance PC4000 (doesnt really detail in sig)

The DFI mobo's are simply the best overclocking boards that exist.
And the mushkin ram is quality ram that will easy do 260mhz 1:1 with your opty :)

so using the spec in my sig, if i do it reight what u estimate i could get from the current stepping on stock cooling or (when i get it) a SI-120 & Delta (or other high powered jet engine type fan :D)

I would 2.6ghz would be achievable but nothing is set in stone when it comes to overclocking.

I'm using a zalman 9500 and it does a great job on my opty at 2.8ghz

any chance of a pic of that cooler fitted.... cant find a decent one that shows the size of it. the case i have is quite small

I have had 2 0551's UPMW's but 165's. One was really bad and wouldnt get to 2.3Ghz and the other I still have is good and can get to 2.75 with 1.54v

I've hit 2.6GHz so far, but haven't had time to do any proper testing yet at that speed.
Did some priming at 2.5GHz which was ok, but gonna do some real burn-in at the weekend.

I've probably got the worst air cooling in my case (don't like the noise) so, I'm not expecting to get any uber clocks with it.

Would be more than happy with 2.5-2.6 stable though, which looks very achievable so far. :)
