ccleaner alternative

Hi, does anybody use ccleaner or know if there is a better free alternative?

I know its free software, just wondering if anybody uses a better alternative?

I would not say better alternative, but I also use System Ninja and Glary's Utilities as backup to CCleaner,both are free too.

Never even heard of either of them before. Just installed both and seem quite good. All 3 of them found a number of errors after repairing. I like that Glary's tells you when there is new software updates available. That'll be useful. Thank you

I've used both for quite a long time with no issues on my Win8.1 PC.

They are quite well known.

What's wrong with CClearner dude?

I've found nothing to warrant me looking for anything else to be honest

Nothings wrong, was just wondering what other people were using to see if I was using the best available.

Ah, fair enough bud.

IMO, CClearner does what it does the best. There are other programmes out their that to slightly more/different things, but I've found no reason to switch from CClearner for doing general cleaning and registry checks

I would not use the registry cleaner part of c cleaner or any other registry cleaner for that matter - they cause more harm than good tbh.

I don't use it often to be honest. In fact, I've used it like twice just to get rid of some HKCU stuff left behind.

there is also bleachbit which is opensource, i use it in linux, haven't tried it in windows.

This. A lot of these cleaning tools are redundant and come bundled with a lot of crap.

Ones in CCleaner,Glary's utilities are pretty safe on auto,it's when you start doing manual registry deletes you get issues.

Personally been using registry cleaner in both CCleaner and Glary's utilites for many years now on weekly basis with no issues,it normally finds leftover registry files from programs you uninstalled that did not get fully removed.
Btw if it was not safe I would not be using it,infact just did a registry clean with CCleaner and Glary's utilities just now ,no harm as usual with those two on this computer.

The old days registry cleaners were different,nowadays a few don't go deep and just look for leftover crap from uninstalled stuff or invalid registry files pointing to nothing.
Also on auto it tells you what registry files are leftover so you can normally see what they are anyway.

There are some bad ones out there that go too deep into the registry but ones like CCleaner/Glary's Utilities are safe in general.
Btw if you are keeping count I'm something like 2000 for 2000 with no issues on registry cleaning.

CCleaner has become a pita. Now it runs in the background unless you close it in the tool tray and it runs on windows start up despite telling it not to in settings and even msconfig.

I think that is on Pro version,free version does not do that.

Mine doesn't start on windows open :confused:

There's a startup section in ccleaner isn't there? Set it to disabled in its own program to stop itself. Should work if ccleaner is any good.
