Hello everyone,

I am an I.T. graduate from Italy and after briefly working as a software developer, have decided I would like to change paths; Therefore, I am looking at doing the Cisco certificate CCNA, however, all the course providers I have found either offer a very intensive course (is it possible to master this trade in just a week?) or a part-time course ie: two days per week for a year, which I would rather not do, as it is too long.

A third option that I have found is a six month course where you are trained in CCNA, MCITP and VMware VCP and they guarantee you employment at the end of the course, however, the price is costly at £7,500 (Is it worth it?).

If you could also advise me:

1. Is the Cisco CCNA enough by itself to secure a job, not necessarily a highly paid job, but at least something to start with.
2. Can anybody advise me on any other way that I can, not only getting the qualification, but also the right training for a good price in London.

Any advise on this matter is welcome and appreciated.

Regards

IMO, having bean on a couple week long Cisco courses, No. They don't have enough time to go deep into the theory. If you do this for a week (full time) before the course then take the course you should be able to pass the exam on the Friday afternoon. Whether you'll be any good at the end of it all is another question... You'll get plenty of hands on experience with the equipment though.

I think these sound like a scam. I wouldn't waste my money on them.

You'll still have a hard time getting a networking job.

Buy the book, watch the CBT/INE videos to get an overview, and then study the book.

not worth the money. I have done the ccna twice and the ccnp.
Your better off buying your own network kit and doing the labs in the official certs. You only need a couple of basic cisco routers and a switch for the ccna.
There is no substitute for setting up your own small network and going through the books exercises.
The Boson exams are very good, though the ones that come free the the books were good enough for me.

No way would I pay 7k for one of those!!!

Let alone 1k

Get some kit, CBT vids, cisco packet tracer, official press guide and study along

Try and find an employer or someone who will give you some experience, going full force in to a CCNA type infrastructure role will be hard, as people would want to see those skills you have learnt combined with a little (at minimum) working experience

I did CCNA at my local College in Stockport when I was about 19-20, it was relatively cheaper when I did it, due to it being a pilot course. It was interesting, but I couldn't wrap my head around it, I think on the first day there was 15 people, when I left there was about 6-7. I didn't even complete the course, I still have all the books that was required for the course, and I even nearly bought myself a CCNA kit from the bay.

Thank you all for your answers. I think I will home study with books and cbt nuggets. One last question? A lot of people are doing CompTIA A+ exams before doing the cisco. Is that a requirement?

thank you again for your time.
