Guys,

I would like to do the Cisco CCNA training course.

I have considered doing a classroom type course at a local college or university but due to my current shift plan this would not be possible until much later in the year.

I have decided to have a bash at a home study course but im lost as to which providor to go with - if any.

Does anyone have any worthwhile links in the UK where i can purchase the required material or can reccomend me what to get?

I would also like to know the following;
* How long does the course take
* What equiptment should i purchase
* Where/How do i sit the test

I will no doubt think of other questions along the way but this should do for now.

Thanks

You don't need equipment for a CCNA, a simulator will do fine and give you far more flexibility than buying equipment (unless you have loads of cash). Look at GNS3 if you have a means of getting IOS files...

I've never done done any provider courses and I'm half way to a CCIE now. Cisco publish a document listing topics and required knowledge, find out what you need to know. Then understand the topics in theory (don't touch equipment until you understand how the theory works), then learn to configure it last of all.

That strategy has got me through 11 cisco exams first time, I've yet to fail one.

I'd just go out and buy he official exam certification guide - read through them and then suppliment that reading with some exam sims and extra reading material if required..... like bigred thats all i've ever done and just the CCIE Security lab to do now

Sounds advice...

Personally I'm waiting for Cisco to actually decide what's going to be in the CCDE lab...

the Open University do a CCNA course, it still has some hands on parts where you are required to go to a place to do it, but there are only 4 or 5 hands on parts like that, spread out over the course. The course doesnt give you the CCNA certificat, but it teaches you everything at CCNA level, so you can go take just the exams somewhere else and pass it.

lol - have cisco stated there is a lab for the CCDE? saw the announcements about the new cert but didnt bother with the detail

(sorry a bit off topic)

also you could check out where your nearest Cisco academy is and enroll with that - only problem I have with those is that you are stuck with a timetable which can stretch out to a couple of years just to get your CCNA done. with a bit of common sense and basic networking then 3-6 months should be a sensible goal in my opinion

Get one of the official Study Guides..

They come with CDs and practice questions etc, check amazon!

Make sure you get the latest version though as the content changes somewhat.
