CCNA worth it?

Depends on how you sell yourself at the end of the day, i imagine there will be plenty of qualified people that can't get jobs as they don't come across as being of potential and visa versa plenty of people with no quals that got there foot in the door and learned on the job.

Here's a good forum for CCNA stuff - I find it very useful.

Another vote for this. I recently passed my CCNA: Security in order to renew my CCNA and love every minute of it! I was one of the people who had the paperwork, but not the experience, but thankfully someone saw I had potential, so now I work around Cisco equipment and really enjoy fiddling around with them :D

I got it as I work in telecoms and it was a good fit with my role at the time. I'll backup the fairly dry comments, parts of it are pretty rough, but in general it will give you a good understanding of core principles and basic switch management. I did mine with a practice set of switches so I could master it and play about a bit, you might feel OK to do without this though.

Worth remembering it only lasts 3 years though, I didn't bother with extending as I went into other roles but something to consider.

Thats a bit of broad question, if you do not want to get into networking I would say its not worth doing.

Just wondering if its worth doing myself, dont have any IT quals and working in a very different enviroment to IT but have no interest in developing my career in the job I am in, so looking at alternatives once again:o

Taking the A+ is like inviting the rest of the world to punch you repeatedly in the genitals. Taking the CCNA effectively qualifies you to punch the rest of the world repeatedly in the genitals and charge an outrageous fee for your time.

its worth it, due to knowledge you will gain

but i would try to get a mcitp server administrator qually, as most "it shops" need these to get to be ms gold partner

I also started the CCNA late, it's a 2 year part time course here as well. My first session was last Wednesday. Get in touch with the college if you want to do it, the first couple of weeks seem to be very easy anyway. I dare say you would probably still get into it. :)

The course is 5 weeks in so the guy said if there's enough interest another may start in January, but most likely I'll have to wait until September :(

Would it be worthwhile to get a job not related to IT, i.e. call centre or working in a shop to save for the CCNA course before trying to get work in IT. At the moment I've had 2 interviews since leaving uni, and I've been applying for loads of jobs :( Everywhere wants experience and few people are willing to take on a student.

Cool thanks.

Just to note - to get Cisco Security, Cisco Voice, and Cisco Wireless you must have the CCNA first.

Juniper (JNCIA) is another I'm looking at after I get my CCNA (Exam is end of Nov)

Or the CCIE i think? Your right though you need the prerequisite but its getting to the point (in this case) were CCNA alone is not enough as lots of people have it. I think the same has happened with the Microsoft qualifications, everyone has it so it does not make you stand out.

Good luck in your CCNA, have you been using testking or there is another one that you can use to study.
