CCTV for car security

Sorry if this is in the wrong place. So yet again my car has been vandalised in the public car park about 200yrds from my house. I can get a view of the car from the window (sometimes) Iv had it with these utter cretins so Im looking for advice as to if its even possible or worth it installing a CCTV camera on my outside wall.

I live on the top floor of a coucil flat so I dont know if Im even permitted to install such a camera. There are no more options for me other than to use this carpark. In the 3 years I have lived here my car has been hit by other "drivers" at least 12 times and everytime they have buggered off. This is the second time it has been deliberately damaged. Thanks
 
Please note, To have CCTV that will allow persons to be convicted of a crime you need to follow the Data Protection Policy to the letter regarding Data collection and storage.

So be expected to buy a fireproof safe and backup your data on Tape or HDD's in said safe. Oh and no more than 28 days of footage kept.
(This is going off the LA Policy in place at my school, if we are found to not have followed it, all footage is inadmissible in court)
 
if you contact the police they can provide the equipment. A friend ended up doing this to try and catch the people doing the damege, this was right out side there house though on the road so they could set it up from a window.

i am guessing it will be local to the force in your area though and how they manage it.

That's 90% BS. CCTV for personal use even in public space is not subject to DPA98. You don't need a fireproof safe to comply with DPA98, even if you had to. There's also no statutory requirement around keeping backups or retaining data as long is it is for no longer than necessary, which can be defined by a local policy as long as it can be considered reasonable.

Yea ok. Tell that to my friends mother who was stabbed right under a CCTV camera. It had the guys face and the act.

But his lawyers got him off as the data was UNPROTECTED so could have been tampered with.
 
Wow that seems harsh that they were stabbed right underneath a CCTV camera that was owned by an individual for their own use and the lawyer got it thrown out because of DPA98.

Does this still apply if the CCTV is monitoring private land, i.e. your home / premises?
 
I think the distance the car is from my house makes my choices slimmer and more expensive. Would an in-car security camera be viable and is there any good reasonably priced options?
