Hi, my car is green and after looking around on the web, I found this:

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/...mb=31265-31371&varient=&CarSelectorCatalogId=

I really like the look of the Fuzion equipment, really funky and different.

I thought it would be good to get it from Halfords too because they can fit it for a tenner and I'm aware I would need an adapter for my car power leads etc. so don't want to mess it up and if anything goes wrong I can get it swapped.

I have no idea how it functions in comparison to similar products from different brands in the same price range.

Is this ok?

When I get more money I would also like to add:

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/...65-31371-31396&varient=&CarSelectorCatalogId=

2 of them for the back shelf, 300w speakers, would they be loud?

AND

Subwoofer for the boot, need some phat bass of course. Is that a good sub? It looks good but I don't know nowt about these things.

I also know a lot of people buy amps, but what exactly are they and what do they do? Would I need one? thanks for any advice.

I'm not anti Halfords but I haven't heard any of the Fusion kit in action, and that seems quite expensive for what it is. I'm sure you could get a Pioneer or Kenwood headunit for the same money with a better specification.

I run Infinity 6x9" speakers myself, and they sound pretty good but again I think you can do better for the money. I had my components (front speakers) fitted by bass junkies for very little and did the 6x9" speakers myself with the aid of a jigsaw for the shelf and my uncle let me borrow his tools to add some molex connectors for the power (using an existing feed) so the shelf could be removable.

I wouldn't go for 6x9" speakers and a sub myself...a bit OTT and you may run into problems as the 6x9" will get battered by the sub. That and it will sound a bit poo.

I just don't rate Halfords for value for money when it comes to ICE. I'm sure you could get more for your money.

Edit: I run my speakers off my headunit because its plenty powerful enough for how loud I want it. However I've probably only ever ran my speakers at 2/3 of their rated power. I'd definitely recommend an amp for a sub setup, or get a multi channel one if you want to amp the lot.

Edit: I'll wait for people who really know their stuff, but if it were me you can do a lot better than that kit for similar money..i.e. branded kit.

K first of all, aren't 6x9's the biggest size and therefore loudest/best speakers available? and why would they be a problem with a sub, cause subs are just for bass?

What do amps do?

Saitrix that headunit does look sexy, it's green as well (green ***) but I would be worried about wiring it up myself, and I know I need some sort of power lead converter for my car to work with the new stereos.

Seriously it is so easy to do. Dont pay the people at Halfords to do a job you can do in 15mins.

6x9's are not needed when you will use a sub, the sub will do all the low range for you. If you want coaxial speakers go for 17cm ones. They will be the best for you, but componants are better but harder to install.

An amps, well amplifies the sound. It links your head unit to the speakers, it also gets power directly from your battery.

Here is a good budget sub/amp.

What car you got?

I see, so are amps hard to install, wiring them directly to the battery and all?

Also how do they amplify the sound of the speakers, more than the headunit? Would that not damage the speakers??

Sorry for all the questions I really know nothing.

Gah such a common misconception "it goes loud enough for me so i wouldn't benefit from an amp"

so so wrong, a decent amp will make the speakers perform much better at all volumes!

Tom.

I got a *cough*sdfsdfjsdfnissansjdjfdsjfmicraajsdjsdj*cough*

2000 W Reg Nissan Micra 1.0

*hangs head in shame*

But it's a good runner, mint condition, reliable and it's a first car aint it, not gonna be a lexus. I'm not gonna bother kitting it out cause it's a micra but I do want a good sound system to pump the tunes and I see it as an investment anyway because whatever audio equipment I buy now, I can move from car to car.

If you get an amp that can deliver around the right RMS amps then no you wont. Normally you have to go *really* loud to blow speakers. The wiring isnt that bad really but if your scared about installing a head unit im not sure what doing a whole amp will be like for you.

That sub seems good, enclosure, 1000w sub (i duno if more watts = better but thats a lot of watts) and built in amp, I could always get my mate to wire it all up for me, he done it for his car, You say it's not a big deal, I was worrying whether to trust him or not but if anyone can do it he definetely can.
