hello again,

few days back i made this Thread but now i am having second thoughts as they wouldnt be very practical. i would need to move quite a few things to make space and i would have to go out and buy all the vinyl. and earlier today i went out and got 3 cd albums so it would only make sense to stick to cd.

Any opinions?

yeah go for cds then. vinyls are not cheap. i was going to go down this route a few years back. what functionality do you want?

daven

edit:
check out the numark axis9 cd players.

You have any of the old Formation Records stuff or my personal favorite Plight of the innovators by Jack Smooth (Smooth Records)?
Dead jealous, Thats the kind of stuff I first used to mix on my mates 1210's back in the day. Truly awesome mixing vinyl, never tried CD decks though.

well i just want to have a decent setup to start off with as i said im not looking to spend too much as this will only be my 2nd setup, but i do want to be able to have decent mixing ability.

Vinyl vs cd costs will even themselves out if you get right into djing.

The outlay for decent cd decks (you're looking at £400 min per deck) and about £150 for a half decent basic mixer. The cost of cd's or downloaded tracks are far cheaper than £8 a pop for decent vinyl.

You should be looking at at least 2nd hand Technics 1200/1210's for £400 on the popular auction site. This may include a mixer.

After the first year you may be slightly more out of pocket with the cd route but this will change dramatically in the second year.

Pioneer cdj800's or cdj1000's if you can afford them. Either recommendations will allow you to get your money back if you give up on dj'ing as technics and cdj's as still the most desirable and least depreciating products in the dj turntable market.

Or if i can throw in summat else, how about some decks with a
digital system?

Rane Serato Scratch Live MP3 Player

Or somehting along those lines, then you can play records and link into
comp or laptop!

Personally i have 2 sets of decks, main reason being is when i started
nearly 8 years ago CD decks had not taken off at all, and as my collection
has grown since then in vinyls, ill be sticking to what i have :)

Cheers

hmmm decisions decisions decisions... if i get cd decks they cost more to begin with but if i get vinyl turntables then it will cost me to buy the actual vinyl.

i dont have any vinyl at the moment, just a large cd collection, so im geussing that im going to save up to get cd decks, would make more sense with the space i've got as well.

if anyone is deciding to sell some cd decks, give me a call, eh? :p

spose i should get back to my computing, in lesson again and its not amazing. :(

I would personally get the vinly decks over the cd... even though I see a lot of bars at the moment not having decks - just the cd.

There is something about the whole 'collecting vinyl' thing which has me sold...

Having said that - it will make using digital music easier if you have the cds...but to be honest I think they look a bit ghey ;)

I'm setting aside some money to buy another deck for when I move into my new place and can start learning to mix etc :) dunno why I never got round to getting the second one...

Yeah... I need to catch up on a lot of Vinyl that I have missed.

Coming back from Ibiza and getting all the tunes I heard out there has definitely motivated me :) that and actually having somewhere permanent to have them.

Actually the female DJs I have met have been more sociable than the male ones.. Lisa Pin Up and Lisa Lashes were lovely - unlike Dave 'I'm more than past it' Pearce. I thought they would have been more bitchy for some reason and they weren't which was a nice surprise. :)

Agreed, have met all of those, LL and LPU were both lurrrrly, Dave was ignorant as was Marco V, Maruo Picotto.

Ferry Corsten was soooo nice and had time for everyone as was Jules, made my missus's holiday this year (ibiza) meeting him getting her pic taken with him, then "stalking" him a week later to sign it. A really nice guy imo.

Also worth a mention was Adam Sheridan, played his set then danced all night on the podium with the crowd :D

lol cheers for the comments guys and girls, making it worse for me as now i cant decide again.

and it blows being too young to be able to afford going to ibiza just yet.
