Hi, Ive just bought a new car and currently it has some warn out looking ministry of sound cd player in it (looks like a MOSCA089 from a quick google search).

Would it be worth changing it out with something a bit newer or would it make no difference atall, nothing wrong with the current one but its a bit awkward to work with as all of the buttons are like an old tv remote so i have no clue what they do untill i push them :)

I also have no idea about the USB port it has, if anyone can tell me what sort of things work with it then thanks :)

Depends what you want to use it for? I bought a Pioneer stereo thats Ipod/Iphone ready. Just plug my Iphone into the front usb port and it gets charged and plays all of my music through it. Iphone can also be controlled by the head unit.
Without seeing yours and maybe reading up on it, the usb on the front might just be for a usb flash drive.

Well i was thinking of upgrading the speakers eventualy and would like to play the music off my HTC Desire if possible

How does the htc connect to a stereo? Im not to clued up on that. I know the Ipods etc just connect via the sync cable (unless there is a specific lead built into the unit)

My HTC uses a USB to Micro USB so i just popped that in, it charged it but nothing else happened
