With the divorce of Britney Spear from her husband in the news, this got me thinking why do a lot or majority of celebrity marriages fail? Is it possible we can all share an insight/understanding or shed light as to why they tend to fail.

It normally starts off as a whirl-wind romance - everything appears sweet, and they look like they belong together forever and all those sweet fairy tale non-sense and before we know it, there is rumour (usually in the papers) and within weeks or months this celebs files for divorce and go each other's way.

In my own opinion, i think they tend to get "married" so as to help their career or perhaps this people just rushed into things innocently without thinking properly? what do you think..?

Do they though?

Could it not be the case that its just a perception - happy celebrity marriages dont sell papers. Im sure there are just as many non-celebrity marriages that go wrong before the ink's dry on the marriage certificate, its just that they dont merit a 10 page spread in Heat.

Hmmm, true say. Will this mean that the marriage institution is failing and it might be over-rated after all? Dont forget (iirc) 1 in 3 marriages is hit by divorce..

Ah, if Britney is getting divorced that will explain the video clip I've just been emailed...

A lot of celebrities are surrounded by toadies and an entourage(as long as they have money). They are used to getting their own way, their taste in whatever is always brilliant etc etc. Put two people of that ilk together and you got trouble. Some will grow up and make a success of it for a while but others - a lot more than in normal society will give up and go back to having their egos massaged by their toadies.

When we *lesser mortals* get married, it normally follows a long period of being together, learning all about each other.
I get the impression that because celebs inevitably date/marry other celebs, they probably form the basis of that person on their public persona. I doubt this is accurate in real life in many cases.
I'd guess that the reality doesn't match the fantasy.

Also, I think there is a lot of publicity seeking involved in many of these relationships.

media attention
long periods away from each other due to job
often marry for what appears to be media attention and often very early in the relationship..

It's not just celebrities who make marriage screwups. A friend of mine recently married for the second time, she was married about 3 months...

The difference is that the few celebrities who also make screwups make the headlines, while those who make good relationship choices rarely do (many celebrities are married without people even realising it)

I think its naive to think that the whole thing wasn't a publicity stunt. Everyone does it - does Britney have a CD or anything to sell at the moment?

Always ask this in the event of any celebrity news....
