What socket is the sempron, Socket A or Socket 754?

Socket 754

Thats the better of the 2 :) you can stick in some older AMD64s if you ever wanted to upgrade :p

But hey if the Celly is LGA775, you could do the same with P4s or maybe even pentium d

Overclocked a celeron might perform better but stock speeds its prolly the loser.

The E6 revison semprons are nice lttle chips for the money.

However you could get a second Hand A64 for around the same money with more cache.Since The price cuts they are now dirt cheap.

Yeah - building a cheap PC for work and ending up going for the A64 3700+ as it's only £65 inc VAT - only a tenner more than the far slower 3100+ Sempron they were considering

The Sempron 2800+ 754 overclocks very nicely on a decent board. 2.4GHz+ is achievable. I had a DFI NF3 which gave me good overclocks but a fair share of problems - good idea to slap a decent fan on the MB chipset as it gets HOT.

I think hes getting cpu/mobo for £60/70 not just a CPU. Although I would be inclined to look at a A64 3000 and mobo 2nd hand for the same money.
