Had a replacement computer from Alienware couple of weeks ago and its a major step up from my previous computers i7 3820 (see sig)

Well I'm thinking i could get about £550 if sold (maybe)

would it then be worth getting the lower down 4820 Ivy-E (if that's what its called) ?

as i really do not use the power of my 3970x its just to much for me , i already got a 690 and thinking of selling that too and getting a single 780 .

i will be getting a new monitor over the next couple of weeks , Asus 1440p 27" screen so i think it wont be to much a step down and actually gaining a few quid in the process.

Only reason to sell the CPU now so it don't decrease in price now , as when the Ivy-E versions come out then its value will drop .

I think what i sell the CPU for and GPU that Extra Cash can go towards my New monitor .

I'd just keep the CPU too if I was you mate - IVY-E is gunna be a pants overclocker (like all other IVY-E cpu's) and its like only a hundred mhz or so extra at stock!

Tis a nice system you got there - should last for yonks. The CPU development from Intel is just pants at the moment (probably thanks to no competition from AMD), so they've gone back to their old strategy of milking the customers for everything they can.....

I wasn't aware "other" Ivy-E CPUs had been released. If you are referring to Ivy CPUs, the poor clocking relates to crap TIM under the lid. Ivy-Es are soldered so will not suffer with bad overclocking (logically at least). Unless you know something no one else does, in which case please share your source.

My 3770K runs at 4.8Ghz 24/7 and can bench at 5Ghz+ hardly a crap clocker.
Once delided they are transformed.

how much is my cpu worth that's the question being OEM dell , i got a 2 year warranty with the system , so i suppose selling it and downgrading would probably void my warranty , but only if something else went wrong with the motherboard as that the only reason there engineers come out , all parts like graphics and hard drives they send by courier. so dell wouldn't know .

I've also got my factory overclock of 4,1ghz up to 4.4ghz and could go higher, but don't want to chance it being a dell board .

Your CPU is made by Intel. Nothing to do with Dell. So it is worth what 3970Xs are.

As far as I know, Dell/Alienware have no issues with you changing your CPU and GPUs. Doesn't void any warranty. All the Alienware laptop guys do this all the time.
