Seriously, you get a free bus pass when you retire and your kids get free uni.

You get a free bus pass in England too. And the only reason Scotland offer free uni places is because they put less money (per head) into primary and secondary education. I'd rather every school child had the maximum resources and that the smaller population who want to go to Uni to further their own careers pay than skimp on everyone's education so you can give free Uni places to a select few.

What reason would that be?

Now why do you suppose anyone would accuse you of being racist? Clue: it's not just because you like to drag immigration into every thread. Well, that's part of it, but not the main part. If it helps, think: Occam's razor.

We need to think about how we control the population growth. More people = more pollution, more resources used, higher house prices, smaller new homes, more green space lost... :(

High population = bad.

The entire planet is facing that dilemma. There could be as many as 15bn people by 2100, I dread to think what the state of the atmosphere & oceans will be with that many.

Personally I think Child Benefits, Family Tax Credits and all other benefits that rise with the number of kids you have should be capped at 2 children.

You couldn't pull the ladder away from current kids already born so you'd have to give a year's notice and only implement it on new borns from that point onward from then but you'd soon a drop in all these big families.

Immigration is a fantastic thing. However we need to have 3 things sorted. New properties being built, our underclass not growing, and immigrants to be the right people.

Immigration isn't the problem. It's uncontrolled immigration of low skilled migrants, rampant welfare abuse and the government propping up house prices that caused the problems.
Indeed.

Lack of investment in infrastructure is also a problem, but solve the problems above & most of the immigration related problems will go away.

But I'm not sure how you quantify rampant, if you look at the statistics it's a very small proportion of total welfare spending.

What we need is an honest & open discussion on the matter, one which isn't hijacked by xenophobes.

It's also worth noting that immigration is most likely only such a large portion of growth due to the fact the indigenous population are now having less children on average - this is true across all of europe/the developed world.

One thing we do need to address is our pyramid style pension system (which is pretty much reliant on constant population growth) before any changes are implemented.

A final thing we do know, if we want people to have less children - educate the women, statistically education levels amongst women is a key factor in determining family size.

Ensuring that people are educated when they enter the country, quickly and effectively - should help reduce the amount of children that immigrants have when they arrive.

Families should get 2 children only, China style.

But seriously, we should act on overpopulation before it reaches a point where it's too late.
