Ok so i have decided to move my website to my VPS, which will happen in about 2 weeks, (i say 2 weeks because i want to get this sorted first) currently im with TSO host and setting the MX record in cpanel is a piece of cake. Although ive been playing with Centos for months now i still cant find a guide or anyhting to help me use Exchange with Centos, all in all i would like a step by step guide on what to do to get Exchange working with my LAMP install, currently the server has basic LAMP installed i.e no -devel packages installed. What do i need to do now is my big question, is there a way to make it simple?

Many Thanks

to make it simple for me i hink would be going to bed an sorin up, tho stubil;y i keep anwerung forum questions an makin a tit out mystyself.... settlefor seconf best and have someoe do it for you

Do you mean setting up a mail server? Exchange is a Microsoft product - it's not available for CentOS.

I don't think there are any free alternatives which support MAPI or Exchange push either.

na i mean CentOS as the webserver, then mail handled by exchange server in the office, currently migrating our website from shared hosting to a VPS and with the shared hosting it was as simple as adding the exchange server public I.P to MX Entry, but with a fresh install of centos after setting up LAMP im stuck and I cannot afford to purchase cpanel atm

Who have you purchased your domain name with?

Basically you need to set your nameservers with the company you purchased the domain with. Usually this allows you to edit the DNS for your domain name.

Here you can set an A record for www (and whatever else) to the IP address of your server. Then you can set an MX record to the IP address of your exchange server.

The web server really doesn't have anything to do with mail - that's all handled by the DNS.

It's under mail, highlighted here:

@16-bit thats what ive done already but im moving my webhosting away from them, so wont have access to cpanel anymore. My domain will stay but my webhsoting will move.

If the domain will the only thing hosted on TSOHost you should still have access to the Cpanel to change DNS records which include MX.

Did you buy your domain with TSO? If so then they would probably just change your account so it can only manage DNS.

Cpanel can also be used for domain management(not 100% how TSOhost do just domain management).

na i understand what u were saying, just spoke to TSOhost and they onfirmed for me that once i get rid of webhosting i can only control name servers, meaning ill have to set up DNS on my centos box to control MX entry, anyone able to help with that then~?

Transfer your domain to another host, I use www.gandi.net

From there you will have the ability to set the nameservers to gandi's and then you can control everything from their control panel.

thanks but i cant see how to transfer, is anyone able to let me know of any domain registrars that will allow me to set my own MX records etc.. for a domain, is there anything specific i need to do with my centos box to make it work aswell?

I have just told you one. Sign up and speak to TSOHost and they will start the transfer for you.

To clarify, your VPS is not even in the equation - so don't worry about it. The reason you seem to be a bit confused is that TSOHost had their 'DNS Manager' built into cPanel. That's all.

Transfer your domain name to a registrar that lets you manage your DNS like the one above and you should be good.

You will need to set up an A name to point to your new VPS (the default A name and www) then set an MX record for your exchange server.
