Central heating never hitting it's temperature

Mickie - It's a combi boiler so it has 2 settings, one for hot water, the other for radiators, the hot water setting is on 50c and is very hot, it was the radiator setting that I changed from 70c to 82c (max)

How hot are your radiators getting? If they're working/opened correctly you shouldn't be able to touch them for long as others have said.

I've had issues where the valves on my radiator valves were closed too much meaning they didn't heat up properly.

I don't see any mention of whether the rads are red hot or not. This has been asked already, and is crucial info.

Has the system been balanced?

Check the boiler to see if its been range rated as it might have been done too low - this is done in the settings and lowers the kw output of the boiler to save gas.

Just google vaillant range rating to find out more but it should be in the installer manual

Its actually better to have it on constant but low(when needed) as this helps the boiler go in to condense mode more and will save on gas

Did you have a look into this?

paragraph 5.12

Have you maybe left the the radiator thermostats set too low? Now you are using a room stat you will need to turn the radiator stats up in the room so that the room stat can control the heating.

In my house my living room has two radiators both are set to max and the room stat is in this room. The other room's radiators are all set appropriately.

Ideally, the hall/room with the thermostat should not have any TRVs. You can take the head off the TRVs to make sure they are not controlling the radiator temperature.

We have the same issue, radiators get too hot to touch but the temp never gets high enough in the house to turn the thermostat of. Lucky if we can get 18c at the minute and that's after 3 or more hours.
But looking at the boiler its only a 14.6kw output (50,000 BTU) so i'm not surprised, trying to heat a 3 bed semi.

Radiators look to be undersized for certain rooms as well.

If they're too hot to touch the surely it's got nothing to do with your boiler's output as it's doing the most any boiler could do? The issue is surely then the number of and/or size of radiators?

If your rads are all getting red hot and your rooms aren't getting up to temperature then your radiators are not big enough for the rooms

I plan on doing it all later in the year, full new system, use the plastic stuff and get some of the new stelrads in. Open vented to a combi and move the boiler to the kitchen from the garage.

I will be doing similar, im moving to an air source heat pump, im going to run a split system and keep the boiler, you can put your gas prices in and the heat pump works out when its cheaper heat with the heat pump or the boiler.

They're great. An added benefit at the moment is the government's RHI scheme which pays you back over 7 years for a domestic install, 99% of the time it covers your installation price so in the end it works out to be effectively free. We started a company a couple of years ago to install and service them. So long as your installer gets the design right you will be laughing

Suffer from the same problem, Think the loft is badly insulated which doesn't help had british gas around and said yes I would be ok for free insulation but would need to take up all the boarding and remove all the old loft insulation before they would do a complete survey again.

Tempted to pay for a separate company to do it tbh.

I had my loft boarded for £680 inc materials from a local carpenter, he bought the boards and loft stilts to raise the flooring to accommodate the insulation underneath without the need to squash it down. May be worth calling a local carpenter to check prices etc.
