Certain programs not working with Win7 and Gigabyte motherboards?

As I reported in another link in this forum, my Windows Experience does not work. It runs through and then crashes towards the end with a generic error message. Now Fraps does not work. I've just downloaded the latest version. Both are problems although they are not show stoppers for me. But they need reporting to someone. I don't know if it's a Windows 7 problem or a GB problem - any ideas?

If you've installed kaspersky, there is a known issue preventing the Windows Experience Index from running in W7.

Oh really? lol. Guess what I have installed. I have Kaspersky AV 2010 installed here. I wonder if disabling it will remedy this or whether I need a new AV. I wonder if that's messing up Fraps too!

Coincidentally, I've also got a Gigabyte P965 DS4 (v1.0). I simply uninstalled KIS 2010 as it was slowing my browsing and system generally, which took away the advantage of my new SSD. I've used KIS for years, but 2010 does appear problematic.

As soon as KIS was uninstalled, Windows Experience Index worked ok again.

Right well as both instances of Win 7 had Kaspersky installed (if i recall) I will uninstall and try it.

Edit. No difference unforunately, and now I am down an AV package.

Sorry it didn't help. These is a long thread running about it on the Kaspersky support forums. I won't post the link as technically Kaspersky are a competitor (as they sell AV), but if you are interested, I'll PM the link.

Please mate. I've just installed a 5850 and I'm going to give it another go.

Just tried it again to no avail. This and Fraps do not work even when changing from Nvidia to ATI and removing anti-virus. It must be the mobo/drivers!

I'm having the same kind of problem were Winodws Experience and TMPGEnc DVD Author 3 (will not create Divx file at end of task) not working, tried disabling KIS but no difference (might try uninstalling it and see), also tried running TMPGEnc in compatability mode (XP SP3) but still no difference, might try latest ATI drivers, using 9.6 at moment...

Using latest Intel chipset and Realtek drivers.

What mobo are you using? I'm using 9.10 cats here and it hasn't made any difference. I am using a P55 UD2.

I've got Win7 x64 on a Gigbyte P55M-UD2 and have exactly the same issues with WEI and Fraps. I'm not using Kaspersky and as far as I can tell have all the relevant drivers installed.

When I was using the Win7 RC, both WEI and Fraps worked fine on the same hardware.

Aero still works, and I've not noticed any slowdowns in games, so I'm not terribly worried for the time being.

Fraps and WEI did not work for me with the RC. Very strange all this!

WEI seems to stop near the end at the stage where it says it's testing disk access. I'm assuming this is what causes it to fail, rather than some earlier stage and it's just waiting until the end to tell me about it.

Fraps seems to need to be run as Admin to work which I've tried, and also running the install file as Admin too. Neither helped. I miss my screenshot button :(

I wonder if it's to do with the version? The RC was Ultimate, but I've bought Home Premium.

That's an interesting question. I had Ultimate and now I've got Home Premium. So in the same boat as you.

Are these problems also with Gigabyte boards? We need to try and establish a pattern - or whether it is generic Win 7 teething. The experience isn't a major hassle but things like Fraps is. By the looks of it there is other software incompatible as well.
