I was wondering if anyone has qualified for this or knows a little more about it?

I might have to take this qualification if I am successful in a job application and would like to know if there is any free material out there on it?

Thanks!

I've looked at this... it's OK but nothing special. I'd say it's not really that recognised in industry - probably about as much as the CompTIA Security cert, but not as much as the CISSP.

I've not seen many resources available online... although those brain dump sites might have practice exams. Not sure if they're free though.

If, like my employer, your's gives you access to a site such as Books 24/7 or Safari, then there are a couple of exam guides available which might be of use (although you don't get access to the stuff on the accompanying CDs).

Yeah I have access to books 24/7 Reading through one at the moment. I am not too worried about it being recognised. I would have to do it for the role and wondering how hard it was.

I did it a few months ago, I havent tried getting a job yet so cant tell you how worthwhile it is, but its a pretty fun cert, will teach you a lot :)

I did it using a couple of books, and a lot of practice tests.

Im currently doing the CompTIA Security+ which ive been told (as a generic entry level cert) is more recognised than CEH.

As far as 'free' material there isnt really anything worth considering really :(

is the CompTIA Security+ any good?
I did a load of practice papers for the A+ and Network+ and they both seemed REALLY easy

Security+ is regarded as one of the hardest CompTIA ones i think, it has a higher pass mark as well, certainly covers a vast amount of topics. But if you put the time in studying and already have a decent practicle knowledge, then its pretty straight forward.

define practical knowledge cos tbh the A+ and network+ didn't tax me but I don't know what kinda areas I'm gonna have to know about for the security+

Depends what you mean when you say "industry". I work for a Cisco Security Partner and this qualification has a good rep. Some CEHs are earning fairly silly money, but you need the experience to go with it....
Stay away from the Brain Dump sites too. Most of these are actually just cheat-sheets. Thats not how you want to approach qualifying yourself.

Well I got the job so will be taking the course. Would the CompTIA Security+ be something for the future after I have passed this course?

I am really looking forward to doing this job as they pay for all training, and I get to pick and choose what I would like to do as long as its IT related. Nice!!!

Fair enough... admittedly I only tend to deal with other security bods in the financial industry, so it may just be that in our sector the CEH isn't given that much regard.

Completely agree with you on avoiding the "cheat sheet".

Congrats on getting the job. :) When do you start?

I think the Security+ would be a good cert to have in addition to the other. It's not as time-consuming to get as some of the others, and it's something you can study for easily in your own time. You can never have too many certs ;)

Ive moved from a different position within my company so they are discussing releasing me, but looks like four weeks :(

I dont think the cheat sheet would help me as I would need to understand the work completely. Will definately check out the security+ once i get the first one under my belt.

Its going to be hitting your radar fairly quickly I imagine ;)

In the financial sector you are going to have to a get a third party to perform all of your vulnerability assessments so it will be less necessary I guess. It is still quite niche as a qualification but it is a solid course with some good practical stuff in it.
They just released v6 so I think ill wait for the study material and go do it.
