CES 2022

LG is saying the G2 will go over 1000 nits and the C2 up to 900.

From what I'm reading, the QD OLED is real but there may not be any at CES because it's not quite ready and Samsung haven't even finalised a product name for it. Samsung will announce the TV in a couple months from now when it's ready.

It looks like for 2022 they will only be making QD OLED in 65 inch size. The QD OLEDs have HDMI 2.1 ports and a 4k 144hz screen. We don't know any other specs because the TV is not finalised yet.

LGs 2022 models are looking super impressive, upgrades over 2021 models include:

* 30% more brightness, peaks at over 1000 nits

* TVs weigh 20% less due to using a composite carbon fibre chassis

* TV bezels are 35% slimmer

* TVs support next gen Dolby Vision IQ

* TVs have Dynamic Tone Mapping Pro: it's a 5000 zone dynamic tone mapping based on the dark or light areas of the zones

* Alpha Gen5 processor does fewer steps for 4k upscaling resulting in less image noise

* HDMI 2.1 ports are now full bandwidth, allowing for 12 bit 4k 120hz 4:4:4 image input

Like new look of the c2, think will upgrade from the C9 and give that to parents. Annoyance with C9 is with audio pass through which can pop, gather later TVs sorted that so in itself will be welcome.

I'm wondering if these new lines will carry a covid tax like most other things. So far looks very good, and i'm in the market for a new TV but not sure if i do actually want to wait with what good screens are still available.

Nothing demo'd yet but will be the LG S95QR up shortly. Expect the audio side to drop more come end of the week as it's been mainly screens today.

TCL (might not make the UK)

TCL’s Alto soundbar line has four new models. On the higher end, you’ve got the Alto 9-series, which has a 5.1.2 model and a 7.1.4 model. Both models support Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, DTS Play-Fi, RayDanz, and Dolby Vision. You can also connect them to Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, and apps such as Spotify. Pricing and availability are unknown for now.

Until the price tag of like £5000 for the 55" gets dropped

Haha I can wait for sale. When I come to buy my limit will be 3k for 65". Won't be for a while till I want a new TV. Everything new shown is still baby steps from a C9.

Oh, don't get me wrong, my C9 is fine, but there looks to be a perceivable jump in performance with these models.

If you need the extra brightness then sure. Max brightness is still enough for me on the C9.

They need to sort telecine judder on panning shots. And include DTS pass through.
