Not looking too bad, oh! Eddie still there! And a 92 year old!! And that theme tune!

Channel 4’s F1 team: Murray Walker, Nic Hamilton, Ben Edwards, Mark Webber, Susie Wolff, David Coulthard, Steve Jones, Karun Chandhok, Lee McKenzie, Eddie Jordan, Bruno Senna and Alain Prost.

See ch4 press release.
Andi.

Murray Walker - OK, but he is a bit old to really do much
Nic Hamilton - So the programs are going to have a Lewis bias?
Ben Edwards - oh well
Mark Webber - cool
Susie Wolff - hmm
David Coulthard - ok
Steve Jones - no, just no, he annoys the hell out of me whenever I have accidentally turned on to T4
Karun Chandhok - ok
Lee McKenzie - ok
Eddie Jordan - burn it with fire
Bruno Senna - ok
Alain Prost - ...

Seems to be a "throw everyone at it we possibly can, and hope something works" approach.

Not a fan of Nic Hamilton being on the lineup, as not sure what he brings other than his connection with Lewis (* yes I know he has had a motorsport career of sorts in BTCC etc)

Knock that list down to Ben Edwards and Coulthard (who I think work nicely as a team) commentating, Mark Webber and Coulthard as pundits and Lee McKenzie to front it and you'd have a great program.

Yea have to agree it seems like over kill and a lot of those don't seem to bring much.

Having Senna and Chandhok I'm fine with too as that Ant Davidson role. Chandhok especially as his knowledge is great and I even liked when he did the bits of commentary for 5live and GP2... Not sure they'll be given much chance to shine though with the likes of loud mouth EJ shouting his opinion over everything.

Wonder what Sky will do now when Ant is WEC racing, who else have they used other than Bruno and Karun? Maybe Sky expected to have Jenson available :-)

I think people aren't realising that a lot of those people have other commitments. Karun/Senna don't go to every race for Sky, they rarely both go to the same race and I think there are some races both don't go for.

F1 is a punishing travel schedule which also gets in the way of other things. Not sure what Senna/Karun are doing right now but they've often been involved in other series so just pop in to Sky every few races to add some variation to the commentary/punditry line up which is good. Same people making the same remarks every week gets dull.

It's likely a lot of the people listed for the C4 lineup will be in and out of the weekend team. It's not likely a permanent team and likely only 2/3rds of that will be available at most races.

Reading the Autosport article it looks like Jones, Edwards, Coulthard and McKenzie will be the permanent fixtures with the others doing odd events. People such as Webber don't want to have permanent roles (which is a shame) and I guess the same for Chandhok (I forgot how good he was on the BBC) and Senna.

The Autosport article doesn't make for great reading (lots of utters of the word "celebrity"), but then I've started watching properly from the moment they hand over to the commentary teams anyway (both with Sky and BBC - they were equally **** last season), so that won't bother me.

As far as I'm concerned F1 coverage runs from the grid walk to the podium. So based on that, as C4 have retained Ben Edwards, I will continue to avoid it as much as possible, as I did with the BBC coverage.

Ditto. I watch the Sky coverage for Brundle and avoid the car crash that is Lazenby, Herbert and Hill before and after the race.

Had C4 not hired Steve Jones I might have given the wider coverage a go but with SJ no way.

Sucks that it's going to be constantly interrupted for adverts. At least the BBC was a constant feed. Still, there's no way I'm getting Sky so I'll just suck it and see.

The actual races will be uninterrupted.

Reflecting Channel 4’s track record for innovation in sports broadcasting, in a first for a UK terrestrial commercial broadcaster, no advertising breaks will be taken through the duration of the live races.
