hia pals!

im 20 years old i suffer from curvature of the spine. ive recently began physiotherapy and im doing exercises and correcting posture etc when i can.

seeing as i spend a lot of time at my pc i think it would be wise to get a chair designed to support the back and help correct posture.

im wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a website???

thanks

Unfortunately, I have no experience in where to get some proper chairs designed for this, but for the time being before you find a chair, you could get one of those posture aids that loop around the backrest, for something I got in one of those cheapo shops, it's helped my posture a bit. Good luck! It's a good thing you're sorting this out before age sets in (only 18, but I imagine age worsens this sort of thing)

Before you go and buy something that could be totally inappropriate for your spinal condition, I thoroughly recommend a referral to and Occupational Therapist who can make suggestions for devices that will help. Your spine issues may be lumber, in which case a Swiss ball type seat could prove painful, or you may have upper back pain, where the chair is pretty irrelevant but you need supports for your forearms whilst typing to relieve the pressure.

Either way, GD on Overclockers may not give the most appropriate advice for your specific needs.

ive got an exaggerated curvature in lumbar and upper back. theres also a hint of scoliosis and a couple of misshapen vertebra.

didnt know where else to get advice from. no harm asking on here. someone may have some good suggestions. :)

Pretty sure I read the best where the tilt ones, that have you kind of laying back, on yourself, the moves weight from the lower back and hipbones.

This would be a case in Scoliosis, where a deep inflammation in the hip/ spin joint is getting aggravated, usually from compressions problems.

Swiss ball type ones are useless unless you have a problem with stabilising core muscles that need to be "retrained" though this can be pretty rare, and actually do nothing for correcting curve or posture problems.

Without knowing the specific reason ( and with backs it's a minefield), your best off with a tilting chair and seeing a good physio/ even sport therapist to diagnose the exact problem.

I wasn't criticising your asking advice here - I just meant that professional advice would be best before making any big purchases as proper equipment that meets your needs will be expensive.

If you work, there should be an ergonomics assessment in place - Access to Work will help with most of the cost.

You want a Balans Chair, the original posture chair. Do check with your specialist first though as the cheap knock offs are often weaker, or not the identical design. Brand new they are around 150.
