It couldn't handle an FX8350 at load but supports it.

I thought the 6300 (not overclocked) woudl be fine.

That board will work with the fx6300 it just wont be able to be overclocked to any decent frequency.

I like the idea of the 7850 and the amd 6300 as a combo. Whats the stock cooling like? e.g. any OC???

Stock cooling on AMD is pretty horrific.
