**Challenge** Get me the best for £1,800

Thanx for this i may go with a few of these but don't need extra space and will go with water cooling ;)

Yeah, a H105 (with the white front plate) will look amazing in that rig).

@DoomedSpeed

If i go for 2 x 850 evo 250GB what speeds would i get and what size? Will it give me 500GB or 250GB in raid0

How would 2 x Kingston HyperX Fury 240GB do as they are a lot cheaper ;)

Those two, you'll be looking around 900mb/s read (which is good) but only maybe 300/350mb/s write (With the 850's achieving nearly 1000mb/s write).

Another issue i have with the fury's is the controller, the Sandforce controller isn't great and its known to be a little unstable so i wouldn't really trust it in RAID0.

This would be a good option, though they are out of stock:

YOUR BASKET
2 x SK Hynix 256GB SSD SH910A SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Drive (HFS256G32MNB-2201A) £84.98 (£169.96)
Total : £179.57 (includes shipping : £8.00).

You're probably looking around Read: 950-1000, write 700-750. Does save you £50 compared to the 850 EVO's though.

Hard to believe how much the prices have just gone up:eek: The HOF card looks good but at that price it’s just crazy, you could get 2*970 or 2*290X cards for less!

I know its probably not much help but if I was doing this upgrade thats a great way to go. Would have picked a beefier PSU but thats great value for money. I have always been a fan of ASUS boards but have to admit, I've had some Gigabytes that look uglier but perform better.

Its compact and high performance and I really like the look of my 540.

What resolution Monitor are you using ?

That Raijintek cooler doesn't come with any fans, so you would need to factor the cost of 2 x 120mm into your budget.

If you want value for money, go with a GTX 970. The 980 is only about 10%-15% or so faster, but costs 50% more.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Inno3D GeForce GTX 970 "iChill Herculez X4 Air Boss Ultra" 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (C97U-1SDN-M5DNX) **OcUK Exclusive** £319.99
Total : £329.59 (includes shipping : £8.00).

Ok will stick with the evos, btw what size do i get with two 250GB ssds in raid0? 250GB or 500GB

Sorry, I forgot to answer that. 2x 250gb RAID0 give you 500gb (over the two drives).

Its RAID1 (mirror) that would half your capacity (2 x 250gb = 250gb usable) due to the nature of mirror.

EDIT: As he removed his post, even the useful but, I'll repeat what WAS said above.

That coer doesn't include fans, so you'll need 2 120mm Static pressure fans. I suggest the £22 SP120 kit.

OK i have changed a few things to get an ace mobo ;)

The reason I didn't include the mx100s in my SSD post was due to the fact they also, like the Kingston fury's, have low write speeds. This means you'll be lucky to achice 400-450mb/s writes. (This is about standard for a SINGLE Samsung evo (for example).

The read speed will be pretty good but if you spending a lot of time rendering, for example, write speeds will play a big role.

I'm liking the new case choice.

I'm unsure why you chose that motherboard though. What does it offer YOU that aa cheaper Asus or gigabyte motherboard doesn't?? And is it worth the extra £100+

Hi there i just fancied a top motherboard and with what i saved on the ssd's and dropping the headset i thought hey why not ;)

I plan to run the MX 100's in raid0 so that should bump the speed a bit ;) (any ideas what speed that might be lol)

Also i needed to get more fans, i got the two SP ones for the CPU cooler and the case needed 3 x 140mm fans so i got SP also. Is that ok? Like the AF were out of stock ;)

Red and black will look good :D Geez that £74 excess will get me into trouble with Godzilla!! <--- the wife.

What do you think?

The mx100 256 GB has a 330MB/s write speed from the spec so RAID 0 should have a max of 660 MB/s. I don’t think the SSD’s will be the bottleneck for rendering, will most likely be the CPU/GPU depending on the software. I would not bother with RAID as it can be too much hassle. The SK Hynix 256GB SSD has a write speed of 410MB/s so may be better as it’s about the same price? I have one and its working fine (only had it about two weeks) but have not speed tested it as it’s a drive I use for my work VM.

How about these in raid0

1 = 240GB Corsair Force LS, 2.5" Phison SSD, Toggle NAND, Read 560MB/s, Write 535MB/s http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-050-CS&groupid=1657&catid=2101&subcat=2393
2 = Samsung 250GB SSD 840 EVO Read Speed: 540MB/Sec, Write Speed: 520MB/Sec, Flash: Samsung Toggle NAND, Controller: Samsung 3-Core MEX Controller, Buffer: 512MB LPDDR2
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-168-SA&groupid=701&catid=2104&subcat=2394

I can get the fans at another time so lowering initial outlay ;)

I get the presime but I still feel there is no real.reason.

You really need to justify this to yourself what this extra £100+ motherboard is going to give you. Is it just peace of mind? Is that a tangible way for you (or would your wife let you) spend the money? Pretend you were explain the extra £100 outlay to your wife.

From what I can see everything it offer over the £200-£230 range is seldom going to be used by non professional overclockers like us (nor will we be touching quad SLI.)

Just on the point of rendering, as mentioned a few posts a go, yes, a lot of it is CPU, RAM dependant but if you were doing a small/medium tweak to a HUGE Photoshop image, that's when write speeds help.

(This point again) Why splash on a motherboard and scrimp on the SSDs. The MX100s are probably the ones I'd go for if I were to rule out the 850s or 840 EVOs.

I feel were nearly there though.

That board has crazy specs considering the low prices. To be honest every X99 board OCUK has is excellent.

You could get an awesome 'All black' theme going with that board and the EVGA ACX, for example.
