With immediate effect and for the forseeable future, I shall be revising my posting style. I will in future only offer positive advice, opinions and contributions to discussions in this forum. If I consider a particular car naff, I will simply not post, unless I am simply offering what I feel is an unbiased appraisal. So, no more 'Vectras are rubbish' and so on.

I was under the impression that this was a discussion forum and as a result, everything discussed about cars was peoples thoughts and opinions and nothing more. Clearly, some people take issue with this concept and feel that my posts and remarks are, in some cases, unacceptable. This is their opinion and they are entitled to it.

I am, however, no longer prepared to see people drag perfectly good threads about cars off-topic into a world of whether I'm a **** or not, whether I need to get some self esteem, whether my car is crap or not, whether I need to 'get out more' (as if my personal life is the business of an internet forum about cars?) and suchlike. The odd personal insult was something I'd grown used to, but recently, it's become particularly annoying becuase it is disrupting the flow of threads in this forum. I post about cars, I'd have prefered it if somebody thought I posted rubbish that they would simply make me look like a fool by shooting my arguement down with reasoned debate, but it seems no, personally insulting me is more suitable. Rilot's new car thread is a perfect example.

It seems that becuase I have strong opinions, every thread is fair game to shove a 'crap bmw' or 'get a life' comment in.

Well, I get the message.

As it would appear the root cause of this sort of thread drift is peoples reactions to my posting style, I will alter my posting style. I've always thought I've been reasonably sensitive in the way I post - I'll lay into cars like there is no tommorrow but I'm keen to never stop over the line into personally insulting people. I've always been prepared to admit I get carried away with my opinions, but are still keen to avoid personal conflict. Indeed, I get on quite well with many of the people in here who, on first sight, it would appear I never see eye to eye with..

Yes, I get carried away, yes, I can be narrow minded, and for that I can only apologise.

Sorry to all of you who enjoyed some of my more controversial posts, and they may one day return, but for now, this is the controversial side of me signing off. Now lets get back to discussing all things car related.

The aim of this thread is simply to draw this to your attention so the bickering can stop now rather than in a week or two when people start to notice.

The new people coming into the forum, the lies and the backlash have made me not bother anymore.

This was once a great place............

It seems these forums, every part of them, are about being right or wrong and how far people are willing to go to prove that point. Rarely and i mean RARELY will you find a discussion on any subject where different parties can disagree amicable.

Sometimes, you have to be the bigger man and let the arsebuckets have their way on a forum because as you've said, they will drag a thread down a bury it in a swarm of immature and insult personal insults. many times i've been a part of that, because i wouldnt let peopel like them tell me i was wrong. To be frank, it's just not worth it.

Personally I think you contribute massively to this forum, but sometimes you do go a bit far to prove your opinion as 'right'.

But... thats what makes this place what it is, the strong and vocal opinions. So stop being a big jessie! :)

Everyone has character flaws. Unfortunately, this is mine. My revised posting style should eliminate this :)

The guy in the other thread just has a chip on his shoulder. Probably his wife just left him or his dog died or something.

I wouldn't take it to heart and there was certainly nothing wrong with what you posted, I was about to say something along roughly the same lines until I realised you'd beat me to it :).

It is not a specific thread that has prompted this Adz, nor is it fair to attribute it to a specific member of this forum either :)

Honesty in posting styles.... people dont like it...
I think its sad that you think you have to change your style to fit in with an internet forum.
Personally I think you should rise above people that dont like your 'style' and continue posting in the 'style' that 99% of the regulars here understand, and probably like.

To be honest you do come accross as rude. However as I spent more and more time around I have accepted it is just your way. As I have read more and more of your posts I find a lot of ground I agree with you and a lot I don't. Don't get so wound up and take it personally when someone opposses your car choices, let them learn from their own mistakes.

No way, dont stop.

Id much prefer to see posts from you that do indeed prove a point correctly or offer an opinion, no matter how opinionated or in the face it may be.

Without characters the forums and indeed life would be boring as fark.

Post on mate in your own style, dont let the buzzards grind you down.

I know, I just assumed it was the catalyst. A final straw, if you will.

Sometimes I think you do come across as somewhat arrogant and I certainly don't agree with a lot of what you post but at the end of the day it's only an internet forum. If people are getting offended by you insulting their car, their dad's car, their best mate's car then that's their problem, not yours.

Toys out of the pram, it would appear you're able to slate other peoples choices, yet yours are always right. Are you really surprised that your posts generate the reactions they do?

Hmm, I'm not sure I agree, I never mind people slating my choices, it's when it steps beyond cars or goes wildly offtopic that it becomes an issue :) People seem to pick the most bizarre times to slate my choices - usually in the middle of somebody elses thread. Although I'm often prepared to argue it out with them, it ends up destroying perfectly good threads.

I'm sure many people here are royally sick of BMW's suck yes they do no they dont arguements in the middle of threads about something totally different.

Are you really surprised that your posts generate the reactions they do?

To a certain extent no, hence this thread :)

I'd just like the forum to settle back down to a sense of harmony. I feel some of the responsbility for this lies with me, for removing some of the abrasion from my posts. I can be needlessly rude and arrogant at times. It rubs people up the wrong way, and causes them to post things they'd probably otherwise not have.

Don't be daft. The way you post on an is in effect the only way your character can come across in the form of text on a screen. To conciously change the way you post is like trying to be something your not.

TBH if the regular posters on here (and I'd like to lump myself in with that category), the people that are the backbone to the whole forum, simply blank any obviously personal insults directed at anyone on here then they will soon get bored and crawl back under their rock. We would just need to not give them the time of day or even waste time typing a reply (even if it is just a "your a ****" :p )

Surely thats better than everyone going down the "I daren't post opinions route"
