Change in posting style

Well perhaps I don't need a complete change then, but I do think I could probably manage a lot of what I post without being quite so.... arrogant about it. It gives off the wrong impression, many people have commented I think I am always right - I don't, but I guess it doesnt come across that way..

how about you dont change how you post, just where and when you post.
if the problem is other people dragging threads off the rails, dont reply to the people doing the dragging. dont argue with them. dont feed them :p

99% of the time you have something to back up your opinion, people thinking you think your right have a reason, most of the time you are, in one way or another.

I rather enjoyed your no BS approach to peoples cars, and more often than not i agree. Like when people spend £20,000 on a small hatchback (exaggeration i know, but illustrates a point) and think they have a good deal. And i must say you have changed my views on car's which are not worth X amount and you can get so much more from another car costing less.
what you seem to forget is that the other person may have different priorities than you, and as such the decision they've made is right for them.
telling them they were daft to buy xyz and should've bought a 5 series/e class etc is, in many cases, just plain wrong.

Right, I genuinely think you are a credit to this forum and without you it wouldn't have the same feel about it. Maybe its because we have both been here for so long... im not sure.

However, I do feel that sometimes you argue with people for the sake of it or to make them feel small or inadequete. You know you can get away with some of the comments you make on here yet if this was in real life you would get a slap... Maybe this is why people think you are insecure? Whatever, it doesn't matter to me! Its a shame though, I genuinely think you would have been a don by now and judging by some of your posts I think you would really like that.

With such a high presence on the forum, and I would certainly say 40k+ posts confirms this, people are always going to look to shoot you down.

Don't take things so personally!

hey foxy don't be so down, you don't need to drastically alter your posting style in the slightest, although the digs at you seem to be somewhat on the up at the moment. I guess the issue is what you mentioned earlyer:

you have a habit of stating your opinion as fact, and while it does make for good discussion as apposed to the usual "i think this" "i dissagree" "thats nice, 'k thanks bye" kind of thing, it also gets people's back up a bit too much sometimes.

Anyhows it wouldn't be so much fun without a good "discussion" once in a while!

HI there

Its the different personalities here that makes this forum probably the best forum section here.

Stay the way you are just when posting sometimes maybe think of how your post/style may be taken by others and what their actions might be. :)

I don't recall ever having had a conversation with Fox ever in Motors or anywhere else for that matter but I have to agree that your posting style is controversial.

You do seem to give over the impression that you are much superior than everyone else.

I have no axe to grind with you or any other people on OCUK at all but sometimes especially for the older members(age not length of time as a member) a lot of what is posted is rubbish.

But by the same token there have been some very good discussions and interesting posts in this section.

Steve

Fox I may never always agree with what you say, but do not change . I would never lie to myself to please other people so be yourself, or me and the northern monkeys will kill you.

Personally, iv not seen anyone make Fox look like an idiot, in fact any insults aimed at him backfire and make the poster look retarded, spiteful and petty.

Sometimes its clear hes hit a sensitive spot when you get rants such as davidstone28's in Rilots new car thread, that come out of no where, for no apparent reason, that are more often that not completely off topic, and complete rubbish. They make the posters seem like 12 year old's in a school playground, or worse, jealous adults who need to vent there frustrations in life.

Fox I don't think you should change your posting, I think that people who get upset and need a waaaambulance should get one to another forum where they can circle jerk, instead of posting utter rubbish assumptions about your personal life.

How very insightful, but when he believes its the case, surely he should post it?

Its not as if you see him posting it in "i need a motorbike/super mini/first car" and him going "OMG 5 Seriez!!" He posts it when its what he thinks and has reasons to back it up. If he did it all the time, of course he would be wrong, but he doesn't.

to be fair though, if you spend thousands on a new car the last thing you want is to have someone tell you its rubbish......
but yea, see your point
Then join an owners club if you don't like it, or defend your car against the points posted and it isn't in actual fact, rubbish, this isn't a circle jerk forum.

the last thing you should care about, is random people on tinternet giving an opinion about it.
if you are confident and happy about your purchase, then any negative comments about the car shouldnt bother you in the slightest.

posting your opinion is one thing.
"forcing" it onto people is something else.

true, but how far should you take that line of thought?
can i really say anything at all to you and have it mean nothing "because it's only the internet?"
face it mate, not everyone has the "water off a duck's back" mentality like you and i.

And how is he forcing it onto someone else?

If someone doesn't want to know what people think of there latest purchase/actions, they shouldn't post, this is an open discussion forum, with different opinions, crying because someone has disagreed with you is retarded and that should be frowned upon here.

it's not disagreeing that anyone else in this thread is referring to.
it's the style of disagreeing that others have a problem with.

true. a lot of people do take things to heart, but those are the people for who the forum and general real life has merged.

it's not just that.
it's the blatant refusal to accept opposing priorities/views as valid.
i'm not aiming that at Fox as i've seen other members do the same thing.
