Change in posting style

Everyone has character flaws. Unfortunately, this is mine. My revised posting style should eliminate this :)

Fox... for once, I disagree with you.

I know for a fact that you give your oppinion on a lot of things, and this forum as you say, is a place for DISCUSSION.. okay, like you say, everyone has flaws but it makes them who they are.. please tell me why the hell you should care what people on a forum think of you, we all have a right to express our oppinions... its what this place is all about.

Its simple.. post what you like, what ever oppinions you have on a particular thread, if someone wants to slang you off, ignore it. You're just letting the self righteous idiots who seem to roam these forums win.

Nothing wrong with your posting style, I find it rather refreshing that you always speak your mind. I'm sure anyone who reads the motors forum regularly knows your style and knows to take it with a pinch of salt when your being direct. Theres no need for you to change, maybe just add a few people to your ignore list?
PS whiney 4 pot for the win

The "problem" with your posting style is that you are almost always correct and have an informed opinion.

People dont wanna hear the truth a lot of the time :p

I can honestly say if i was to ask about a question about what to buy, your the first person i would ask for an opinion.

Just go with it chap, nothing wrong with your posting!

I for one rate your opinion (even though it may only be so) highly as it's clear you do a hell of a lot of research and put a lot of thought into cars. Well, aside from the DIY mechanics :p

hmmm...deja vu here (not directed at Fox).

Shame to see that someone feels victimised (for lack of a better word) just for having an opinion.

if you are going to change your style and way you post then you may aswell just stop posting. A forum is a place for ideas opinions and expressions, yours are just as valid as the next persons. If people cant appreciate your opinion and feel a need to start childish bmw suxx0r fights etc then just rise above them and continue to do what you do best.. offering informed valued opinions, ideas and comments.

Edited for spelling .. theres only 1 P in opinion damnit :p

Fox, there've been a couple times we've been on opposing sides of a subject. Never once have I felt that you've been condescending to me or trying to put me in a corner. You've always been well informed (or researched CONSIDERABLY better than me) on any subject I've seen you comment on.

If there's one thing I've learned on this forum it's that if you post an "opinion" about something to do with a car you know about, people SHOULD take it as fact because all the arguing and BS'ing won't change facts, and you generally only post facts.

If someone can't handle the truth, that's thier tough luck, not yours. Changing your posting habits is wrong. You're quite often the voice of reason when others have thier heads in the clouds.

I may disagree with some of your opinions (I personally don't like BMW's, but I can certainly see thier appeal), but I fully understand that if you post that a car is rubbish even though it looks fantastic, it's because it's a polished turd. If you post that a car is tops when it's clearly the most ghastly thing ever created, it's because it's a diamond covered in poop. Give it a good wash and it's the greatest.

If I ever have the opportunity to get my hands on a British car, you'll be the first person I contact to find out if I'm being an idiot for considering it........

to be honest, if you stop posting the way you do, I'll see little reason to stay involved ! it'd be like Will Gill saying Freefaller isnt his doppleganger, or that eidolon isnt his brother ! (or even worse, merlin saying he wont do his PI role, finding all the BS'ers !)

dont DARE change your posting style :D

I've changed my posting style on OCUK before. It's not uncommon. Pretty much anyone with 'controversial' opinions is practically forced to do it at some stage. Don't get beat up about it Fox, and keep posting those informative posts that you do.

It's a good idea to review your posting style, because I was once of the of ones that used to get slightly annoyed by your cutting and often arrogant sounding posts.

However, since I met you at the RR day and we chatted about the stang and another car over what you'd have, it all made sense and I got a true understanding of your character. And it aint bad!

Now when I read your posts, I imagine your saying them face to face and a lot of the time, they make much more sense. It's this forum persona that has built up and whenever people see [TW]Fox and that sig, they almost brace themselves for a bashing.

The one thing that you might want to consider, is when people have bought a new car, don't go bashing it in their show off thread. That's what gets most people because it's too late for them to change and they're obviously happily showing off their new chariot, then you come along and tell them they've made the wrong choice.

If I invited you to my wedding and you walked through the door to find me standing hand in hand with lisa riley, would you casually stroll up to the alter and say...."Good child bearing hips.....but shame about the spare tyres mate".

I doubt it ;)

It's a shame to see that someone has else feels that the forums just aren't the place for sensible discussion anymore :( Despite my low post count there isn't a thread in the motors forum that I haven't read.

There are just too many people ready to jump on the bandwagon and slate everyone else's views and opinions or actively ignore what you've got to say if they think it is wrong (opposed to forming some kind of reasonable argument)

Some people opinions will never be swayed (i.e. I will never consider buying a high-mileage BMW- it just doesn't appeal to me. There's no reasonable argument from my side) but likewise I would no longer consider buying a BRAND new car as sensible (especially on finance).

If it weren't for these forums, I would never have appreciated how large the second hand market was... I would have never even considered the MR2 as a viable purchase @ 21 years of age!

There is only a handful of people that actually show off their pride and joy (especially if it is cosmetically modified) but so many folk will accuse them of wasting money and being plain daft. There's also the handful of people that despite asking for advise- ignore it- and then when it all goes wrong they come skulking back for sympathy and further advice.

Fox, don't change the way you post. Let the other ****** stop posting if they get wound up by you. This thread seems to justify your posting style. Here's a fresh idea folks (and something I'll employ), if you think someone is posting personal insult and derailing a thread- RTM it. If everyone reading the thread RTMs a single post, it should get removed (the post not the thread). Make the Mods do some work :p

I don't want you the change your posting style dude. I like your style and a value your opinions. If those are a little too close to the truth for some people to handle then so be it, that's their problem not yours.

What a pile of tosh [TW]Fox, I enjoy reading your posts and that’s the primary reason I took an interest in reading the motoring forum more often!

People are becoming so petty these days!

Frankly, I find a lot of what [TW]Fox writes intimidating and unwelcoming *but* given that this is a forum of people who are keen on motoring he should be allowed to give his *opinions* without hinderance on the understanding that they what they are, the opinions of an individual passionate about Motoring.

Please don't change or leave, Mr Fox!

Just carry on how you were. the day I start doing/saying things to simply make other people happy. (Basically hiding what you really think) is the day i become a politician ;)

At the end of the day if you're posting an 'opinion' that is all it is i.e your take or perspective on a given situation, event or fact. If someone disagrees with that opinion then they have the right to post theirs as well; If you're posting something as fact then people have an opportunity to present other facts that may disprove it, thats how the world works.

As for Mr Fox I frequently find myself disagreeing with him and find him a bit one-tracked in his way of thinking but I always thought he was more of a man than the one now posting about needing to change his style simply because of a few criticisms and would be disappointed if he changed.
