Change in posting style

You want answers?
I think I'm entitled to them.
You want answers?
I want the truth!
You can't handle the truth!

Just carry on as you are fella, don't always agree with you but that is the point of discussion...Life would be boring if we all agreed.

I see no reason for you to change your posting style. If you can't be who you are then why bother?

IMHO I do think starting this thread is unnecessary. If you want to change, just do it. No need to justify your reasons or create a thread that will make people sympathize or show you off as an attention seeker.

Its a bit like those people who cry "Oh I'm leaving the forum now" only to get a "please don't go" reaction from a few people who make out they care.

Don't let people bother you. Continue how you have been and accept that peoples reactions to you are based on your online personality.

I'll admit to finding Fox's posting style slightly annoying. He actually reminds me of me about 10 years ago - having an unfortunate habit of posting with an absolute conviction that my opinion is correct and that others are either too blinkered or ill-informed to realise it.

That, combined with his relative inexperience in car ownership and driving has led me to grind my teeth on the odd occasion.

However I can easily ignore it, he is a geek-tastic resource of obscure knowledge on certain marques (i.e. did the 530i sport from 2001 come with heated mirrors as standard, or was it an option?) and shouldn't feel the need to change his style to get the approval of others.

Plus I turned out to be super-cool, so he's in good company :D

Your posting lately has been annoying to some extent where as if you dont own a BMW or your cheaper car isn't a mondeo then you have been slagging them so to speak .

But praise where praise is due for a few things

You know a lot about a lot of cars (but not them all)
You slated V-tec so you went and drove one then formed an opinion ;)

Just keep posting as your are mate because if only 1 person slates you then the other 50 are taking in what you put and if someone gets offencive towards you in an unappropriate manner then use the dons ect as anyone else would

This hardly warranted a thread, if you want to change your 'posting style' then just go ahead and do it.

The purpose of the thread was to make it clear so the petty bickering and insults could cease derailing threads with immediate effect rather than gradually, over time.

I think this thread has run its course now, however, and its given a lot to think about..

I like your confrontational posting style!

Hopefully some people will think again before taking some posts by other memebers quite so literally.

Everyone is totaly entitled to voice their opinion, and I for one really hope no-one ever feels they have to change anything about their own personall posting style to placate others.

Please Fox stay as you are, do not kowtow to others

Nothing wrong with your posting style, I find it rather refreshing that you always speak your mind. I'm sure anyone who reads the motors forum regularly knows your style and knows to take it with a pinch of salt when your being direct. Theres no need for you to change, maybe just add a few people to your ignore list?

Agree with you and other's who think the same. Please dont change who you are on here for people who cant take some negative feedback. I know when I first started reading posts on motors I thought your posts were quite harsh and didnt seem like a nice person to me, but when I started to talk to you i saw that your a really nice person and someone who speaks their mind and that is a good quality to have and not one that you should throw away because of some people.

Please dont change Mike, be yourself:)

My view?

We are all guilty at one time or another of being so desperate to be heard and be seen as right, that we forget that often it is an opinion we are trying to change not a fact. The web is full of 'experts', and that isn’t going to change anytime soon. Hell I know more than everyone EVER :p , and most of us think we have it all clear in our heads, even the ones who post utter gutter, but its just a forum full of people with opinions, many of them with NO experience of the things they discuss. I don’t think for a minute that means they should not have an opinion, just that their opinion will be somewhat less informed or will be formed from the opinion of others.

I think you must be one of the main contributors to this forum looking at your number of posts and you are quite vocal, and there is nothing wrong with that if you are level headed, which you seem to be to me, but at the end of the day its sometimes better to take things less to heart and walk away and focus on something more constructive. I too can be vocal and tend to be interested in those areas where I may add some real world experience to what is a forum frequented by a generation or two behind me. I don't have all the answers, never will, but like you I like to try and articulate myself (unless late in the night and beer is at hand!) and perhaps become a little bit verbose, just like this post really. :D

If I were you I would focus on what you know, and ignore (I mean add to your ignore list, I do) the people who always try and bait you. Life it to short to argue with a closed mind, though a closed mind is different to someone who may not always agree with you. Keep posting and try to not rise to those who seek to bait you. I get bored easily, and unless I am looking at the forum I NEVER give it a second thought. If you struggle to do that your spending to much time on it and need to leave the car at home and enjoy some beers and some women, at your age it is ALL I was interested in ;)

As much as it is lovely that you would consider doing such a thing....

Don't be a melon, the place will become boring.

However, perhaps you could empathise more that sometimes people don't always want the best in class (ever more so on paper) for their money, sometimes they want something a bit different or more according to their perception of taste ;)

You also need to appreciate that my Bus-seat-like Honda interior is brilliant, and that after all this time you really do want one :p

Anyway, enough Fox mollycoddling, back to cars.............

Well Fox, i think a lot of people on here owe you a great deal, you obviously know a bit about motors (i couldnt tell you what end they **** out of) and the advice given on here is free. Its true that sometimes your advice is very forward and to the point, and maybe some people can take this as personal, or them being belittled, i dont see it like this. i dont know you IRL, but i guess your just a pretty outspoken kinda guy.

Keep posting on here, and dont change for anyone, dont change your posting style, just be you. And no, i am not trying to blow smoke up anyones ass, just as long as you know there are some people on here who value your opinion, and will come to you for help.

more power to you

:)

Fox, in some way you ARE the motors forum. I know and have spoken to you before on car choices.

You seem to have lived cars all your life absorbing reviews, technical data and analysing any car that you've ever driven in being it as the driver or the passenger.

Please please please don't change your posting style, it makes you who you are and is why so many of us respect you and your opinions.

Maybe we have a new breed of posters in motors who have washed in from GD? Flibster stopped doing his fantastic F1 and A1 threads after he got death threats for his opinions, how petty and sick is that??

Stay as you are chap just edit out any off topic posts which could derail other threads. OcUK is one of the most moderated forums so maybe we need to tighten up on this to maintain the user experience!

My 2 pence!

Nah, keep on mate, most of the time your critisisms are well supported with facts and that is a valid part of any discussion. There are some plonkers on here who will argue a point which they beleave to be true, but dont stop on their account.

I never took you as the kind of guy to give up! take the stick on the chin and keep going! I for one respect 99% of your posts, most of the time you are bob on!

Hmm, I generally find your posts to be informative dude. I think maybe you could pay a little more attention to how people feel about things (as a means of complimenting the facts), tastes/styles etc. But your posts certainly don't offend me or make me think badly of you. In-fact I suppose I admire your sensible nature. Had I been a little more like you whilst at uni maybe I'd be the proud owner of a decent 5 too. **** it I say, so what if you sound like an old man, this is the internet, who cares :).
