I posted for some advice on an i7 gaming rig but i been reading into things and it looks like dual core is the way to go for games. and a lot cheaper. looking at the wolfdale e8600 is it worth going ddr3 with these of stick with ddr2?
 
if youve already got 8gb or reaper then id prob stick with that. ddr3 dual has dropped in price a little but doubt its worth it unless you get a really good ddr3 board fairly cheap on the MM like i did :D!
 
sorry didnt look at your post count! Members Market, you get access to it after 250 posts! The 790i's are supposed to be the best nvidia board but wouldnt say its worth it unless you are def doing sli!
 
yeah seeing the price of 280's that was the route i was planning. the dd2 rampage formula 2 looks good. much diff between 780i? 790i?
 
Yeah they do look attractive, if they come back into stock! Yes apparantly the 780i and 790i are completley different! I know it sounds strange! But a lot of people had a lot of probs with the 780i have a look in the forums!
 
depends what you want crossfire or sli.
Sli(790i) - EVGA/Asus Striker II
Xfire(x48) - Asus Ramapge/Foxconn/DFI
are prob the best. Depends how much you want to spend!
 
id prefer crossfire as ati cards are better priced imo. looking at either: rapage formula/extreme the foxconn and blackops dont look like id fir my x fi titanium soundcard in the pcie slots if i have 2 gpu on the mobo. the rampages look like it would fit. well i got up to £1500. but if i do it this way il use my 8gb ram so will just get case cpu mobo and the gfx cards. is e8600 still best for gaming? or will q5550 be the one? atm i play farcry2 gta4 and l4d
 
if you can afford it and your memory will oc ok a q9550 would be pretty good as these can clock upto around 3.6-4ghz (need memory to run at 450 for 3.6ghz), but an e8600 would be easier to oc and most likely just as fast in games.

Although with the amount of money you are now talking about its getting close to i7 money! (would need new memory then though!)

x-fi should fit in top slot on formula, not sure about the fox conn maybe above the red slot

hows that sound. is the rampage worth the extra cash? looks like il have to sell x fi titanium and use the one that comes with the board
 
tbh i have no idea about x58 chipset! i know as much as you! Guess just check the specs/reviews etc and see if you think its worth the £90! Make sure you've got a psu that will handle all that aswell!
