On my phone so keeping this as simple as possible!

Had a E6600 but needed a cheap upgrade so ebayed a Q6600 G0.

Previously my WIN 7 install failed so have had to reinstall everything and all seemed okay, had a CPU ucode problem but a bios flash sorted that.

Perfomance is ****.

I get stuttery 1080p movies, terrible 3dmark06 framerates, even the CPU score is only 4500.

Now I thought, duff CPU maybe?

Loaded XP and smooth as silk, no issues and a 3Dmark of about 17000 what I would expect.

Any ideas?

I've reinstalled twice, all drivers up to date nvidia, dx service pack 1 etc.

Doing my head in. :/

Ps. I'm on 32bit w7.

hmm , try running the task manager (enable cpu time column) and run
some progs , if it stutters check the task manager and see what is using the
cpu cycles

Got Onboard Graphics on the motherboard? make sure its turned off (unless your using it)

BIOS settings all correct? Are you completely sure? A Bios update can leave you with odd problems that wont fix them selves!

Well, this is strange.

After leaving it for a few days I booted her up and had a look in task manager and CPU usuage was really low, like 1% so I was a bit puzzled. Anyway I ran 3dmark06 and Heaven and everything is great!

Really bizzare, can't understand what happened. Anyway, happy days.

Any ideas what happened? Also just out of interest I get a higher CPU score in XP than W7.. 5000 vs 4500 any reason for this? The overall score and sm3 results are better though.

Cheers anyway

XP uses less resources so it generally scores better than 7. No doubt XP is still the best OS for gaming, however, it's losing support... it's a dying OS.

Seriously? You think "XP is still the best OS for gaming" and you have no doubt about this?

On a light system yes... but on a proper gaming PC you won't see any difference between XP and 7... lets not get into this discussion .

I didn't think it was a discussion - as you have absolutely no doubt about your statement there is no point having the discussion.

To anyone else picking up on the thread however I would have to totally disagree. Windows 7 runs better on "light/old" systems than XP does. Tried and tested numerous times as I have machines here at work running on 2GB RAM with old single Core P4's & Celeron's.
In every case we have seen 7 run quicker and more reliably than XP.
