Not had to do this before so I need a little advice on changing the battery. The manual is no help at all as it just says 'we recommend you go to the dealership'. It seems simple enough but is there more to it? I have a Diesel 2010 Renault Laguna 2.0 DCi. Apparently I need a type 96 battery and I found one online for less than £60 from http://www.carbatteries-online.co.uk.

Thx.

Make sure you have the radio code (should you need one).

Remove negative lead from battery first, then possitive, you will prob need a 10mm spanner, then remove the battery hold down clamp, remove and replace battery, fitting the possitve lead first.

You might need to do such things as reset the auto window up/down as well. On my last car you had to fully put the windows down and back up, also do a steering full lock to lock, but that was electronic power steering.

For most modern cars, remember the order to disconnect things is as follows - negative then positive, when disconnecting, then positive to negative when reconnecting. If you remember this as 'Nasty People Pick Noses' then you wont forget it either :p

Oh and some renaults are annoying as hell to change the battery on, the alarm will sound for as long as the battery is disconnected and the horn/siren seem *a lot* louder with the bonnet up! You also may find that a Renault has screw terminal adaptors on the old battery which you will need to prise off with a screwdriver and then tap onto the terminals of your new battery. Great fun to faff around doing this with your car alarm sounding continuously, the noise wont give you a headache and won't annoy your neighbours one bit, I promise :(

If it looks awkward (some cars will be a royal pita), is it worth paying Halfords a couple of quid to do it?

Cheers for the advice, called a local company and they will supply and fit for £70 all in. Knowing my luck, my car will be the PITA to change the battery.

Get a Haynes manual for your car and it'll tell how to change the battery including what to disconnect and what to check for. :)

It will save £££ if you just do it yourself.

Alternatively if you need a battery quick then pop down Euro Car Parts. They often do 30% discounts on batteries so order online and collect at your local store. One thing i would advise is that when you know which battery you need then google it on ebay as i found that Euro Car Parts were selling the same battery for 2/3 different prices on there website & ebay etc.

Oh last thing, if you got cheap disposable gloves then wear them. The grease is a pain to get off :D
