Changing a front door lock, urgent advice required

Whatever that might be, he could well have done that. Let me tell you during a move, one of the things you do not want to do is lock yourself out of your new house.

I certainly isn't fun.

When we bought our first house last year we got the call to the EAs office to collect the keys. After waiting there for 30 minutes they admitted they couldn't find them and had to call a locksmith.

The locksmith couldn't come until 9pm and changed the front door lock for us, it turned out the keys were on the kitchen counter and the EA had just left them there and walked out the door. Twits.

Remember when swapping euro cylinders you want to have it so that none of it protrudes out of the front of the door. Don't fit any that are too long.

If you can get a set of mole grips on it you can snap euro cylinders in half with little effort and then open the door with a screwdriver.

Sounds about right, good to know that I am not the only one to have key problems straight off the bat.

Phate - good to know you got it done mate. Now time to congratulate the Mrs for her forward thinking skills.

£120 sounds pretty cheap for years of learning. Having been a Locksporter myself for a number of years and learned to use traditional picks, it's not an easy thing especially when you're under pressure.

Drilling is for cowboys! :D
