changing a steering wheel for one without an airbag?

I'm already lookin at modding my car, first up being changing the P&O ferry steering wheel. It looks however like getting anythin other than a straight swap means getting an aftermarket wheel without an airbag. What are the ramifications for doing this? Obviously there's the airbag warning system that will have to be reset, but what other issues might it throw up? I assume it will need declaring as a mod to my insurers, but are there issues with removing airbags?

I'm looking at a Momo Millenium Evo for my Clio 172, but any other suggestions are welcome.

You wont pass the MOT, so will have to swap the wheel over every year....or....there is a mod, search for it on the clio sport forums. Cant remember the details I am afraid, but there is deffo a work around to making sure the light goes out.

Horns can be a pain from memory to. Some people have changed the indicator stalk for one with the horn button on the end to get around it.

Not sure about that, I passed my MOT with my airbag light on (318) - it's only an advisory (although I didn't even get one).

If there are any alternatives that are smaller than the stock wheel and keep the airbag id be all for it. But I just can't find any. If I want a smaller wheel it looks like I bhav to go without an airbag.

Won't you have no face left if you crash without an airbag?

I've crashed two cars without airbags and not mashed my face (NO FUNNY COMMENTS! :p).

It's not an issue. Mine had the light on all the time and wasn't an advisory.

RAID make an airbag aftermarket smaller wheel. But it's very expensive. I don't believe you can get them in the UK, and need to purchase from Germany.

My steering boss came with a resistor which you connect where the airbag would be - stops the light coming on the dash. :)

Thanks to those with meaninfull replies. For the record, this has nothin to do with looking 'bad ass' and everythin to do with fittin my 6'4" frame in more comfortably. Hence the choice of the least aftermarket lookin aftermarket wheel.

Yeah, this appears to be the concensus on the renault forums. So other than declairing the mod and riskin mashing my face there's not much else too it.

yup i had endless issues with mines when i changed the wheel.

From it randomly comming on driving down the road to nothing at all.

so i got shot of it and went back to standard.

Just remember if you put a smaller wheel on you will notice it when trying to turn slow. feels like turning forever

Not sure on the newer ones, but I'm sure the French hatchbacks are all horn on the end of the stalk. :)

WHY...?
Does the airbag lower your street cred?

What? The OP has said that the wheel is massive and all smaller ones he can get don't take airbags. If he could get one with an airbag he would.

I replaced the standard airbag wheel in the green 420 for a Momo steering wheel without an airbag.

Passed the MOT fine.

My other car didn't come with an airbag from the factory. Am I going to suffer instant death as soon as I turn the key?
