changing cpu ... easy?

didnt know they compared the very two processors, thats great,

yeh i heard about changing the affinity.. thats in the processes menu i think, set 1 core for 1 process and vice versa, sounds good

on another note, currently have 2x 1gb ddr2, (pc2-6400) 2x 512mb ddr2 (pc2-5300) - (total 3gb) (4 slots)

a) is this enough to run alongside the dual core?
b) as my board doesnt support ddr3 :( what could/would be the best improvement?

some good and bad news

good news is, i bought some more ram, so in total have 6GB

bad news is i had some time to work on pc today and tried the new cpu and got nowhere :(

fitted like a dream, new thermal paste on etc turned on... everything running (fans, lights etc) but no beeps and no display, however .. swap back to the old cpu and everything as it was.. from this i can presume its the bios (unless im missng something)

however as this is 2012 and the use of floppy drives no longer around, it getting bit tricky to load the bios, the driver from the cpu listed above, we think is incorrect, as my current bios is an award version so requires a different bios,

tomorrow i will connect a floppy drive, and boot up using a floppy disk, and fingers crossed we get somewhere

All I can tell you is that you hear that the CPU is delicate and don't break any of the golden pins underneath etc etc. and it gets everybody paranoid, but seriously, them things are stronger than they look. As long as you don't force it as if you're trying to open a jammed door then you'll be absolutely fine!

I used to be scared of things like this and I can tell you that I've done it numerous times and it's not a problem at all. :)

As above, definitely clear the CMOS. Either pull the battery or use the reset jumper (if it has one) - that will probably get it working.
