hello
im thinking of changing my HDD in about 4 weeks and i want to make sure i have all the info before purchasing.
firstly here is my motherboard;
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products...rd&ProductID=1886&ProductName=GA-8S661GXM-775
it says there are 2 sats ports on that and my first question would be will any sats hard drive work on there(sata,sata2)
this is the hard drive im thinking about getting if the answer to my first question would be yes,if no im going to have to start looking again.

my second question is to do with that HDD,i have found another one i presume it is the same one,on an unmentionable website on which i can pay in for it(why itll be 4 weeks) but that does not say sata 2 it says sata300 here is the info given on the other website;

also if in the future i upgrade to an e6600+motherboard will that HDD still work or should i wait until i upgrade first

Yes SATA2 drives will work in that board, but at SATA speeds. You may need to change a jumper on the drive to make it run at SATA speeds.

SATA2 and SATA300 are the same thing (the same as SATA and SATA1.5 are the same thing).

The hard drive will work if you upgrade to a Core 2 Duo. Infact it will probably be able to run at SATA2 with a C2D board.

New HDDs these days are SATA II (A.K.A. 3.0 Gbit/s) but backward compatible with SATA 1 (A.K.A. 1.5 Gbit/s) and, correct me if wrong, all come set to SATA 1 mode. To enable SATA II you have to change a jumper, etc :)
